The MRD will delay the relay pulse according to the parameters received in the DPI
splice command. If the received DPI command is a splice_immediate type, the MRD
will fire the relay immediately following any delay (positive value) indicated by the
configured “Offset” value. In the case of the splice_immediate event, negative offsets
have no meaning, and the event will be fired as soon as possible.
In the case of a splice_insert event with a delayed splice_time indicated, the MRD will
wait until the indicated splice time before firing the relay pulse. The splice_insert
command is typically transmitted 4 to 5 seconds before the actual DPI insertion point. In
this case the “Offset” value can be used to cause the relay to be fired earlier (negative
offset) or later (positive offset) than indicated by the splice_insert message.
A NOTE ABOUT MULTIPLE SPLICE COMMANDS:
SCTE35 allows the DPI inserter to send more than one splice command indicating the
same DPI event. This is accomplished by using the splice_event_ID. The MRD will keep
track of the splice_event_ID so that duplicate splice commands do not cause more than
one DPI trigger output, and so that unique splice events are properly queued and fired - as
would be expected.
