Installing the Ethernet surge arrester
An Ethernet surge arrester is provided as an accessory with the AP8120-O access point. It is
for indoor installation and it provides lightning and surge protection for indoor Ethernet
equipment that are connected to AP8120-O. The Ethernet surge arrester is compatible with
Power Over Ethernet (POE) devices and supports normal and reverse polarity PoE. For a
typical installation, refer to the following diagram.
Note:
If you are using the Avaya PoE injector, you are not required to connect the Ethernet surge
arrester, because the Avaya PoE injector already has internal surge protection.
Warning:
The Ethernet surge arrester is an indoors unit only. You must not install the unit outdoors.
Operating specifications
The following table describes the operational ranges for the Ethernet surge arrester.
Table 6: Ethernet surge arrester operational specifications
Specification Range
DC spark-over voltage 75V +-25%
Impulse spark-over voltage 100V/us <=500V, at 1kV/us <=600V
Operation temperature -20°C to+60°C
Storage temperature -40°C to +85°C
Humidity 5% to 95% typical
Complete the following steps to install the Ethernet surge arrester for a WLAN AP8120-O
deployment.
Procedure
1. Mount the Ethernet surge arrester to a wall, screwing the two screws into the holes
