Speaker Placement and Positioning
Position the speakers 2.3′ to 6′ (0.7
to 1.8 m) from where the listener will
be situated, and aim the tweeter
at the approximate height of the
listener’s ears. There should be no
obstructions between the speakers
and the listener. Each speaker should
be 3.5″ (9 cm) or more from the wall
to prevent early reflections, which
can interfere with stereo imaging.
For stereo placement, space the speakers equally to form an
equilateral triangle with the listener at the third point of the
triangle.
For five-channel placement, arrange the speakers in a circle,
with the listener in the center. As with stereo placement, the
left and right speakers should form an equilateral triangle
with the listener. Place the center speaker between the left
and right speakers, so they are spaced evenly at 30° from
each other. Place the rear left and rear right speakers behind
the listener, at an angle of 100° to 120° from the center
speaker.
