Rate Check - Rate Check Procedure Seed size, seed type, seed coatings, seeding speed and other variables all have an effect on the actual product application rate The Rate Check Calculation compares actual weight of product seeded to actual acres applied. For best results weighing product is recommended. 1. Fill tank with a known amount of product 2. Enter in a calibration number from the Calibration Numbers chart (pg. 1). If product is not listed perform a static calibration. 3.
Rate Check - Rate Check Calculations Weight of Product Used = Actual Rate (lb/ac.) Acres Applied The calculations presented here are to demonstrate how to properly calculate and adjust the metering rates, once a test area has been seeded. Target Rate: 135 lb/ac. Cal. Weight: 3.5 lb/rev Acres Applied: 8 acres Weight of Product Used: 1 160 lbs. 1 160 8 = Actual Rate Target Rate = 145 135 = 145 lb/ac. Correction Factor 1.074 Correction x Cal. Weight = New Cal. Weight22 Factor 1.074 x 3.5 = 3.
Rate Check - Rate Check Tips • • • • • 36 Weighing the product going into the tank will ensure greater accuracy Use the attached operator worksheets (pg. 40) for keeping important information documented ie: cal weights, application rates, fan speeds, field condition notes, etc. For low rate products (under 10 lb/ac.) (ie: canola) - do a rate check with two 50 lbs.

Tips for Granular Inoculants The 9 recommendations below have been assembled with the cooperation of various equipment manufacturers and our product labels. Use this as a checklist to maximize granular performance with air seeders. 1. Overnight Storage: Do not leave unused granules in the tanks overnight. Granules stored in tanks will take on the humidity of the air and can lead to corrosion and decreased granular efficacy while seeding. 2.
6. Calibration: When calibrating the air seeder, make sure to check the information printed on the inoculant bag, in order to follow the proper line on the seeder rate chart and seeder operator’s manual. Make sure to calibrate with your chosen inoculant at the start of each season with the bags and the specific products that are being seeded. 7. Metering System: Regularly check metering system to ensure proper product flow. Check tanks more frequently when seeding in high humidity conditions.
