1.0 Introduction Congratulations on your choice of a Seed Hawk® Drill to complement your farming operation. This implement has been designed and manufactured to meet the agricultural industry’s need for precise direct seeding, accurate banding of fertilizer and consistent soil packing. All persons authorized to operate this implement should read and understand the contents of this Operator’s Manual, especially the Safety Section.
1.1 Description of the Machine The Seed Hawk® Drill is a one pass seeding implement that provides accurate depth and packing for a wide range of crop seeds with the additional capability of optimum placement of granular, liquid or ammonia fertilizer in proximity to the seed. The specially designed assembly arm offers accurate seed and fertilizer placement in many field conditions, as well as on-row adjustable packing. 1.2 Illustration of the Machine The 8m 30 Series is shown below.
1.3 Machine Serial Number The serial number plate is located on the main frame of the tool bar. Record the machine Model and Serial Number in the spaces provided below. Use these numbers when contacting the dealer for repair parts, warranty or service assistance.

2.0 Safety 2.1 Safety Alert Symbol The Safety Alert Symbol is intended to capture the attention of the machine operator of important safety information both published in the Operator’s Manual and applied to the machine. Any time a Safety Alert Symbol is seen, it means that associated information is provided for recognizing, appropriately responding to and avoiding potentially hazardous situations. An equilateral triangle surrounding an exclamation point indicates a potential hazardous situation.
2.2 Operator Responsibility Remember,YOU, the operator, are responsible for the safe operation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of this Seed Hawk® drill. It is the responsibility of the owner, or authorized person in charge, to ensure all persons who operate, adjust, maintain and/or repair this implement be familiar with the information provided in this Operator’s Manual before performing any of the tasks listed above. A safe operator is the key to safety.
2.3 General Safety Practices Read and understand the contents of this Operator’s Manual prior to operating, adjusting, maintaining and/or repairing the implement. Locate, read and understand all safety signs applied to the implement before performing any tasks. Review the contents of this Operator’s Manual at least annually, and any time a new person is assigned to perform any task with the implement.
2.4 Maintenance Safety Read and understand all information provided in this Operator’s Manual covering operation, adjustment, maintenance and repair prior to performing any of these tasks. Plan work to ensure proper tools, equipment and personal protective equipment is available prior to working on implement. Wear appropriate clothing when performing tasks around the implement. Ill-fitting and/or frayed clothing as well as loose or dangling items should not be worn when working near the implement.
2.5 Hydraulic Safety Ensure that all hydraulic system components are kept clean and in proper working condition. Periodically inspect condition of hydraulic hoses, lines and components and remove and replace any parts showing damage or deterioration. Use only replacement parts specified by the manufacturer. Make repairs following instructions provided by the manufacturer.
2.7 Storage Safety Store the implement away from areas of human activity. Do not allow children to play on or around implement. Store the implement on a firm, stable and level surface. If implement is stored outside, leave toolbar in field position (wings down). To avoid damage to the gauges, ensure that the dump line is left unrestricted during storage. 2.8 Tire Safety Ensure tire inflation pressure is maintained per specifications.

DANGER! ELECTROCUTION HAZARD Stay away from power lines when transporting, extending or folding implement. Electrocution can occur without contacting power lines. DANGER! DO NOT service or make adjustments without first stopping machine fully, and ensuring that the power source has been shut. 2.9.3 Safety Sign Information Safety Sign Legibility: All safety signs applied to the implement must be visible and legible.
Affixing Safety Signs to Implement 1. Ensure proper position and orientation before installing. 2. Ensure installation area is clean and dry. 3. Ensure ambient temperature is above 10˚C (50˚F). 4. Remove backing material to expose label adhesive. 5. Place one edge of label to machine surface. 6. Slowly press the label onto the surface. 7. Ensure no air pockets become under surface of label.

3.5 Openers 3.5.
The seed and fertilizer knives are mounted at a fixed distance apart on the opener arm assembly. The knives are also offset laterally to place seed and fertilizer in adjacent, yet separate, furrows. The packer/gauge wheel packs the soil around the complete disturbed areas of the furrows to ensure optimum seed/ soil contact and fertilizer placement as well as maintaining available soil moisture. Hydraulic pressure to the main arm assemblies is controlled and adjusted from the tractor.

4.0 Operation IMPORTANT! Change the tractor’s hydraulic filter after the first day or two of Seed Hawk operation, some debris may have collected in the hydraulic system during manufacturing. Changing the filter will remove this debris, and prevent it from damaging components on the seeder and tractor. 4.1 Hydraulic Hose Hook up The picture below is for representation only. Hydraulic hose hook up will vary depending on tractor and Toolbar configuration.
4.2 Tractor Hook up 4.2.1 Opener Lift & Lower Connect the ¾” (19mm) hydraulic line to activate the opener lift/lower. The opener lift/lower line is marked with a wide red band. The opener lock-up ball valves must be open in order to lower the shanks. Both the opener line and lock-up ball valves are located at the hydraulic manifold. It is very important that the hydraulic fluid dump (yellow band) lines return UNRESTRICTED back to the tractor hydraulic reservoir.
4.3 Pre-Operation Checklist Inspect tires. Check tire inflation pressure. Adjust if necessary. Inspect wheel hub fasteners. Adjust torque to proper setting, if necessary. Always check wheel hub fasteners before traveling on public highways. Check depth setting of packer wheel arms. Adjust if necessary. Check depth setting of fertilizer knives. Adjust if necessary. Check tractor hydraulic reservoir level. Add hydraulic fluid if level is low (Refer to tractor Operator’s Manual).
4.4 Winging Down Toolbar Prior to winging down the Toolbar, first ensure that the wing locks are removed from both sides and the locking pins are placed in their holders. Locking Pin Holder The left side wing locking pin is shown above. Unpin both left and right wings, before lowering. 1. Ensure all opener shanks are up. 2. Engage the lever direction in the tractor cab that the GREEN banded hoses are hooked to, this will allow the wings to unfold into working position.
4.5 Preparation Before Filling the Seed Hopper Normally the front seed hopper is used for seed and the rear hopper for fertilizer. It is also possible to use both hoppers for seed. In that case, the position of a valve must be changed so that the hopper that normally feeds out fertilizer will now feed out seed to the seed distributor head. Note that this also requires the Loup III monitor to be reprogrammed. Check Before Fillling: That the machine is empty, clean and dry.
4.6 Filling the Seed Hopper CAUTION! Never stand under a suspended load! Make sure nobody is present on the drill when the seed and fertilizer are brought up to it. 4.6.1 Filling From a Bulk Bag The seed hoppers are most easily filled from the front right-hand side. The wing sections should be folded down. The loader must have an extension arm. Rear Hopper Front Hopper 1. The fertilizer hopper (rear) should be filled first.
4.7 Setting the Airflow The seed drill fan is located on the front wall of the machine and is driven by the tractor hydraulic system. The amount of air in the feed system is regulated by the fan rotation speed and by a butterfly valve in the air hose's distributor to the feed housing. The rotation speed of the fan is adjusted by the tractor flow valve and displayed on the Loup III monitor. Set the fan rotation speed and valve position in accordance with the following table. 100% 50% 4.7.

It is recommended that the high/low alarms are set at 500 rpm above and below the operator's preset rotation speed. 4.8 Emptying the Meter A C B 1.
4.9 Rotor Replacement The 30 Series comes equipped with an electric feed which controls the feed quantity. Feed rates are switched by a rotor and the gear setting. Refer to Section 9.0 for the Seeding Table. The rotor for the required seed output attachment must be installed and set prior to drilling. There are three different rotors to choose from: a rapeseed rotor, a grass rotor and a grain rotor. Rotor Changing Procedure 1.
5. Reinstall the bearing and locking pin and select a suitable gear setting. Close the emptying hatch. If the latch clamp cannot be closed, open and clean so that the emptying hatch lock can catch correctly. IMPORTANT! The grooves on the rapeseed rotor have to be guided into the grooves on the seed box. 6. Push in the shut-off hatch and fold down the latch clamp. 4.

Fit the locking pin in position (C) for low gear and position (D) for high gear. 4.11 Seed Control Seed control can be used in extreme conditions if certain seed types are pressing too hard against the rotor causing uneven operation. NOTE: When sowing slow-moving seeds, such as grass seed or clover and grass mixes, seed control must never be installed, as the seed can otherwise become compacted against the seed control plate and, in the worst case scenario, stop the flow. 4.11.

NOTE: When installing, the seed control plate (E), it is inserted with the straight, thin side at the top and the locking hooks towards the bottom/rear. Insert the plate upwards and towards the rear until it comes into contact with the edge and the mounting holes are in the correct position for installing the latch clamp (D). 6.

5.1 Function Keys Soft Keys Meter Rate Screen Power Escape ACK (Activate Clutch Key) Enter Selector Knob and Toggle Navigation Keys Power: When the monitor is off, pressing the Power Key will turn the monitor on. When the monitor is on, pressing and holding the Power Key for 5 seconds will turn the monitor off. Escape: Pressing the Escape Key while in any menu will exit without making any changes. Many of the functions for entering and navigating around the screen are duplicated by the controls.
Activate Drive Key: This key is used to engage your clutch or disengage your clutch. (Reminder: Clutch Status is indicated in the Top Section of the Display). Meter Rate Screen: Pressing this Key brings up a screen which allows adjusting meter application rates and turning meters on and off. Soft Keys: These keys allow the user to access specific functions within a certain menu.
5.2.1 Normal Operating Screen Bin Level Alarm Status Drive Status Ground Speed NOTE: The User Selectable Display Window Area is “Sensor Selectable” as well as “View Selectable”. This is explained in detail in Section 5.3.4 and Section 5.3.5. User Selectable Display Window Area Bin Level Status: The levels of up to 4 bin sensors are shown in the left most area. Active Alarm: Any time an alarm is active a bell will appear to the right of the 4th Bin Level Icon.
5.3.1 System Status Menu This Soft Key Menu displays the current status state of your system. This menu is beneficial when checking communications and/or connections. This menu is “view only”. To access from the Main Menu Run Screen, press any Soft Key to bring up the Soft Key Menu, select “Setup”, then “Status”. Using the Selector Knob or the Navigation Keys allows the user to view sensors that do not fit on the main screen.
5.3.4 Item Menu This Soft Key Menu allows the user to select which information is being displayed in the User Selectable Display Windows. 1. Begin by pressing the Soft Key labeled "Item". The screen will show a dark selection box. 2. Using the Navigation Keys or the Selector Knob, navigate to other selection boxes. "Ground Speed" has a selection box around it. 3. Once you have your choice selected, press the Enter Key or the Selector Knob to bring up the Viewable Selections Menu. 4.
5.3.5 Layout Menu This Soft Key Menu allows the user to configure the User Selectable Display Window Layout based on the amount of information desired to be displayed. Highlight the desired Layout Option using the Selector Knob or the Navigation Keys. Finalize your selection by pressing the Selector Knob or the Enter Key. 5.3.
1. MuxBus Sensor Setup: This is used to install and remove sensors that operate on the MuxBus network. These include the ground speed sensor, the Fan sensors, the Bin Level sensors, pressure and flow sensors. 2. Global Settings: Use this menu selection to set the units of measure, language, implement width, the volume of the alarm, the backlight and contrast of the screen, and the master switch mode 3. Restore Settings to Defaults: This is used to return all settings to factory defaults. 4.
5.4.1 MUXBUS Sensor Settings and Installation At the “Menu Settings” screen use the Navigation Keys or the Selector Knob to place the highlight bar on item "MuxBus Sensor Setup." 1. New system installation: Place the highlight bar on “Auto Detect” and press the Soft Key labeled “Install”. 2. Plug in the sensors: Sensors must be connected in the order listed on the menu.
4. Remove a Sensor: Individual sensors can be removed by highlighting the desired sensor and pressing the Soft Key labeled “Remove.” Unplug the sensor so that the computer does not try input it back into the system. NOTE:You must press the Selector Knob to select individual numbers.You must press the Enter Key to save the complete value. 5.
5.4.2 Global Settings This menu allows the user to set the units of measure, language, implement width, the volume of the alarm, screen settings (backlight and contrast), and the master switch mode. To access the Global Settings from the run screen press any Soft Key to bring up the Soft Key Menu and press the Soft Key labeled "Setup". Navigate the highlight bar to the “Global Settings” selection and press the Enter Key. At this screen you can review the basic system setup and make changes as necessary.
3. Width: This is the width of the implement, Navigate to this item and press the Enter Key. A drop down keypad will appear allowing the operator to enter the implement width in the form XX.X feet or meters depending on the units selected. Navigate to the individual numbers and press the Selector Knob to accept. When the total number is entered press the Enter Key to save the new width value. 4.Volume: Sets the alarm volume level. Navigate to this selection and press the Selector Knob to select the item.
7. Master Switch Mode: The choices are “Manual” and “Auto”. Manual is used when the operator engages and disengages the drive by pressing the ACK (Activate Clutch Key) at the beginning and end of each pass. Auto is used when a lift switch on the implement engages and disengages the drive. Manual is the normal mode of operation. 8. OK/Cancel: Select “OK” to save any changes that have been made or "Cancel" to ignore changes that have been made. 5.4.3 Restore Settings to Default 1.
5.4.4 Ground Speed Calibration All new systems require a ground speed calibration to ensure accurate area totals and accurate ground speed readings. During the calibration the monitor is counting the number of pulses produced from the drill mounted sensor. The monitor will display the pulses counted in 400 ft. (122m). Choosing this item will allow you to calibrate the ground speed sensor to a known distance. The default distance is 400 ft. (122m) but this can be set by the user.
5.5 Meter Calibration 5.5.1 Pre-Calibration Setup All meters must be individually calibrated. Calibrations must be done each time a crop is changed. Calibration for the seed is done at the front hopper, on the left side of the machine, and calibration for the fertilizer is done at the rear hopper, on the right side of the machine. Measure and record the weight of the empty calibration bag supplied. 1. Measure and record the weight of the empty calibration bag supplied.
3. Set to the desired shaft speed and select “Prime”. 4. Meter will turn 2 revolutions to ensure meter roller is full of product. 5. Empty product from calibration bucket caught during the Prime cycle. Reposition calibration bucket under meter and select “Calibrate”. 6. Meter will begin to turn. Stop the meter by selecting "Continue". 7. Enter the total weight of product caught minus the weight of the empty calibration bucket. 8.

Enter weight of product 5.5.3 Clear Field Acres Choosing this item allows the user to clear the accumulated field acres. NOTE: If total acres cannot be cleared from the settings menu, contact your Seed Hawk dealer for information on clearing the register. NOTE: Once verified the field acres cannot be restored. 1.
4. Increment: This value is the increment value for on the go rate adjustments when seeding. The default value is 5.00 lb/ac. 5. OK/Cancel: Select OK to save any changes made. Select “Cancel” to ignore any changes made. 5.5.5 Seeder Stationary Mode This selection allows the operator to enter a fake ground speed so the entire system can be run for a system checkout before entering the field. The entire system must be functional to use this selection.
5. Using the Selector Knob, select the fake ground speed on the drop down keypad. Once finished, select "OK". This will allow the user to monitor the seeding inputs for any length of time without engaging the actual implement. 6. When sufficient readings have been displayed to ensure the calibration, select “Seeder Stationary Mode” in the menu settings and disable. 5.5.6 Remove All Sensors This menu item is used when installing a previously used monitor on a new system.
Once acknowledged, the audible alarm will cease and an icon of a bell at the top of the display will flash. Also, an icon associated with the specific alarm will blink. For example if the BIn Level Alarm for Bin 1 becomes active and is acknowledged, the Bin 1 icon will flash along with the alarm bell icon. If Bin 2 then shows an alarm condition then the audible alarm will sound again. Once acknowledged, the Bin 1 and Bin 2 icons will flash along with the alarm bell icon.
5.7.1 Engage Drive The monitor requires several pieces of information for field operation. • • • • • There must be an implement width entered. There must be a meter application rate entered. There must be a meter calibration rate entered. Forward travel speed must be present. The drive must be engaged. To engage the drive press the ACK (Activate Clutch Key). The drive icon in the upper center portion of the screen will turn solid.
5.7.3 Adjust Application Rate The meter rate can be quickly adjusted while seeding by pressing the Meter Rate Key. This brings up the Meter Rate Setting Screen. 1. Select the meter rate to adjust turning the Selector Knob to highlight the meter desired. Meter 1 is the default meter. 2. Press the Up/Down Navigation keys to incrementally adjust the application rate. The rate will immediately adjust for the selected meter. To adjust another meter navigate to it with the Selector Knob and adjust it up or down.
Setting Shank Pressure 1. Press any Soft Key to bring up the Soft Key Menu and press the Soft Key labeled “Shank”. 2. A horizontal bar graph display will come up on the screen. Press the Enter Key to activate the adjustment and then rotate the Selector Knob to increase or decrease the system pressure setting. 3. Press Enter Key again to save the setting. When seeding.
5.7.5 Tramline Setup The tramline function must be enabled to be used. Tramline control valves must also be connected to the system harness for the monitor to show any operation function. 1. To enable the tramline operation, press any of the Soft Keys to bring up the Soft Key Menu. then press the Soft Key labeled “Tramline." Press the Enter Key again to bring up the Enable/Disable menu. 2. Navigate to “Enable” and press the Enter Key. Navigate to “Sprayer Boom Width” and press the Enter Key.
5.7.6 Tramline Operation The tramline function operation is controlled by the Drive Engage ACK (Activate Clutch Key). This allows a predetermined pattern to be repeated across a field with rows left unseeded to facilitate the operation of sprayers. When active during a tramline seeding pass, the control system will disengage the product flow and maintain those two openers in the raised position, while the others engage in seeding.
5.7.7 Tramline Repeat The Soft Key labeled “Repeat” allows the user to alter the field pass forward or backward one step at a time. For example: the user may start a field with the tramline active and wants to begin with pass #2 instead of pass #1. 1. Press the Soft Key labeled "Repeat" and select “Advance” to skip one seeding pass in the registry. 58 2.
5.8 Troubleshooting Loup III System MUX Sensor is not recognized at power up. This will include the ground speed, fan, and bin level sensors Possible causes: Harness wiring is faulty or the sensor is defective. Solution: With the system turned on, go the sensor that is not communicating. There is a LED on each sensor (except the multilevel bin sensor). If it is flashing slowly (1 flash every 2-3 seconds) that indicates that power and ground are connected but the sensor wire is not.
5.8.1 Error Messages Time Out Alarm: In 20 seconds if ground speed is below 2 mph. Typical Start Up Alarm: Indicates when a sensor is not found. Time Out Alarm: In 20 seconds if the drive is not engaged. Rate Not Achieved: The meter cannot turn fast enough to apply the desired rate at the travel speed. Fan Too Slow Alarm: Will come up if drive is engaged and forward speed is present and fans are not turning. This alarm cannot be acknowledged, you must stop and correct the problem.
Start Up Alarm: Indicates a connection problem between the motor sensor and the control module. Meter Stopped: Meter is not turning with ground speed present and drive engaged. 5.9 Opener Shank Operation 1. Ensure that there is power going to the Seed Hawk Loup III monitor. 2. Engage the tractor hydraulics lever that the RED band hose (opener circuit) is connected to. Full Tractor Pressure 3. Lock the tractor hydraulics lever that the GREEN banded hoses (wing circuit) are connected to.
5.9.1 Opener Shank Pressure Adjustment The hydraulic down pressure applied to the opener shanks is controlled by a closed loop system that allows the operator to enter the desired operating down pressure. Entering the desired amount of down pressure can be done on the monitor as well. The monitor controls a down pressure valve that maintains the pressure setting on the opener shanks through the control module. A pressure sensor measures the actual hydraulic pressure and feeds it back to the control module.
In order to get the proper packing and penetrating forces per field, we recommend lowering the opener shank pressure from the tractor at the beginning of each field. Every new Seed Hawk toolbar manufactured has a factory preset with the opener shank pressure set at approximately 1000 psi. When the proper amount of packing pressure is applied to the shank, the chain that connects the seed and fertilizer knives will be pulled taught. Once the chain is tight, take note of the packing pressure gauge reading.
5.11 Winging Up Toolbar 1. Make sure all opener shanks are up. 2. Reverse the lever direction in the tractor cab that the GREEN banded hoses are hooked to, this will allow the wings to fold up into transport position. ATTENTION! Make sure to lock the ball valves on the back of the opener hydraulic block.
5.12 Primary Operation Variables The Seed Hawk® System is the leading design in crop emergence, which allows growers to reap the benefits of quick and effective germination throughout the growing season. Positive soil to seed contact is essential for optimum seed germination. Soil type, extent of tillage or disruption and moisture content all influence germination percentages. IMPORTANT! There are six primary variables that affect the quality of soil packing.
5.12.3 Mud Scraper Adjustment Ensure that the pneumatic packer tire has a pressure of 10-15 lbs. There is no adjustment to the semi-pneumatic since there is no air pressure. Also ensure the gap between the packer tire and the mud scraper is minimal. Be sure to check mud scraper setting before seeding and yearly to ensure proper gap between packer tire and mud scraper. NOTE: Any damages sustained to packer tires as a result of improper adjustment or maintenance of scraper is NOT covered by warranty.
5.12.5 Knife Lateral Separation Confirm knife lateral separation, 1 in. (25.4mm) between blades, especially after replacing knives, to avoid seed damage when applying high rates of fertilizer. 1” (25.4mm) 5.12.6 Cornering Ideally, the most effective seeding, fertilizer banding and soil packing occurs when the implement is pulled in a straight line. Some field conditions will not allow all of the seeding to occur in a straight line.

5.14 Crop Residue Considerations Seeding into fields with heavy residue is challenging, but residue cover is essential to the success of a zero-till cropping system. Ideally, the straw height from the previous year will be less than or equal to the width of the Seed Hawk® Drill row spacing. For optimum results, the combine harvester should chop the straw and spread the straw and chaff evenly across the entire swath width.
5.15 Seed Hawk® Packer Tire The packer tire bulges slightly to provide uniform packing over the seed and fertilizer furrows. This leaves the seed ¾ in. (19mm) below the curved path left by the packer wheel. If the seed is placed in an ideal environment, moisture will be channeled into the path of the packer tire, fertilizer is placed in the optimum position for seed growth and the seed knives leave a dark strip, which warms more quickly than the surrounding residue covered soil.
5.15.2 Muddy Soil Conditions Seeding depth may be altered if mud sticks to the packer tire. If mud is only ¼-3/8 in. (6-10mm) thick, then this is not usually a concern. Assuming good soil moisture, the reduced seed depth is still adequate. If the mud thickness is uniform, the seed depth, also, will be uniform, but shallower than the initial depth setting. It may be desirable to set the seed depth deeper to compensate for mud build up. 5.15.

6.0 Maintenance 6.1 Securing the Seed Drill Machine for Service DANGER! Never crawl under the machine's chassis unless tractor is shut off and the pressure from the hydraulics has been bled off. Make sure hoses are disconnected from the tractor. Make sure wing lock pins are securely placed and locked, if servicing is necessary, with the wing sections folded up.
• Lubricate galvanized and chrome-plated surfaces with grease before long periods of storage. To preserve the high quality of the seed drill, always use genuine Seed Hawk® aftermarket parts. 6.3 Hydraulic Cartridges Hydraulic cartridges, which are located on hydraulic block, should only be removed, inspected and cleaned at the end of each seeding season if problems occur with them. Some cartridges may be disassembled for additional access for cleaning.
6.5 Grease Fittings 6.5.1 Steering Hitch Lubricate all grease fittings at locations (A, B, C, D, E, and F) DAILY. A NOTE: Grease fitting B is located on the underside of the steering linkage joint. B C D E F Lubricate main frame wheel hubs daily. Refer to Section 6.5.2 for hub grease points.
6.5.2 Wheel Hubs Lubricate Wing Wheel Hubs every 100 hours or, annually. Lubricate Packer Wheel Hubs every 100 hours, or annually. Grease Fitting Grease Fitting Lubricate Packer Wheel Hubs every 100 hours, or annually. Grease Fittings 6.5.3 Wing Hinge Points Grease all wing hinge points once a week.
6.5.4 Seed & Fertilizer Knives Inspect Seed and Fertilizer Knives every 10 hours or daily for general condition and trash build up. When seeding in muddy conditions, check for mud build up between the packer tire and packer arm. Perform a more thorough inspection every 100 hours and before each seeding season. Check for loose hardware, worn knife points, and overall play within the individual components and service as needed. Refer to Section 3.5.1 pertaining to the torque specifications for openers.

6.7 Cleaning 6.7.1 Metering Unit The interior of the seed housing must be cleaned and checked at regular intervals for wear of the plastic and rubber parts.Check that all wires and cables are in good condition. Refer to Section 4.8 and Section 4.9 for instructions on disassembling the metering system. Dismantle the rotor and clean it if required. Rotors should always be cleaned at the end of the season. To remove the rotor, refer to Section 4.9 for information on rotor replacement.
6.7.2 Cleaning the Distribution Heads 1. Check at regular intervals and at the end of each season, that no seed, fertilizer or packaging remains have accumulated in the seed hoses or the seed head outlets. At the same time check the cleanliness and operation of the tramline actuators. 2. Clean the seed hopper, rotor and seed box along with other parts at the end of the season. Check that there is no seed or fertilizer left in the ejector tubes and associated air hoses.
6.8 Storage When not in use, the machine should be stored indoors. This is particularly important since the machine contains electronic equipment. The electronic components are of a very high standard and are normally unaffected by damp conditions, but we recommend, nevertheless, that the machine is stored indoors. The Loup III monitor should be stored at room temperature during the winter and between seasons.
6.9 Bleeding the Hydraulic System The seed drill hydraulic system does not need to be bled during daily use. However, the system must be bled after it has been serviced, e.g. after changing seals. 6.9.1 Lowering Wing Cylinders Bleeding of the wing cylinders is done by operating them to their fully extended and fully retracted positions several times. DANGER! Do not stand in the areas where the wing sections and marker arms are lowered while bleeding is being performed. 6.9.
7.0 Troubleshooting Cannot Adjust Shank Pressure Probable Cause Incomplete engagement of hydraulic quick couplers. Lock valves for shanks are set in closed position. Solution Inspect quick couplers to ensure complete engagement. Ensure that both lock valves, one at the manifold and one at the tractor quick coupler, are set to the open position. Check for broken wire in harness to solenoid coil. No electrical power to shank solenoid valve.
Shanks will not go down under pressure Probable Cause Pivot points are too tight or seized. Solution Loosen up pivot points about 1/8 of a turn. Don’t over loosen them. Wing hydraulic system does not maintain pressure Probable Cause The “IN” pressure gauge indicates less than 1200 psi. Check 7-plex wing down value (only on 7-plex machines (72 ft. and up)). Wing lift cylinder piston leaking. Solution Inspect quick couplers to ensure complete engagement.
