The Advantages of Digital Wireless
Wireless video links are essentially “invisible video cables”, and a
great option when running video cable is cost prohibitive, impossible or
for temporary applications such as covert surveillance. Today, wireless
technology has become commonplace in virtually every device producing
or receiving information, such as laptops, bar code scanners, alarms …
Consequently, interference is a huge concern when considering wireless
video - especially when using analog technology that operates in the
2.4GHz range. Fortunately, digital wireless overcomes many of these
interference challenges, and provides excellent quality and reliability.
Other Tips to Minimize Interference
Despite the many advancements of digital wireless, some of the old rules
used to ensure seamless video transmission still apply. Whenever possible,
keep transmitters and receivers away from high power wireless devices and
RF emitting devices such as microwave ovens. Additionally, be conscious
of obstructions. Any RF signal transmitted through an obstruction (such as
walls, floors, vehicles, trees, terrain, etc) will experience a reduction in signal
strength – so consider elevating both transmitter and receiver. Even inside of
a building this can be extremely helpful, as most obstructions are six feet in
height and below. In any case, high gain antennas will multiply signal strength
and can be the difference in receiving a high quality signal.
