Video Component Description
Setting
480p is below high-definition quality. This setting will produce a less detailed picture
unless the program was originated in 480p format.
480p 480p programs have little or no resampling by the video component.
720p and 1080i programs are downscaled to 480p by the video component.

DVDs are available in full-screen, widescreen (sometimes called anamorphic), or let-
terbox formats. Some DVDs even have full-screen format on one side and widescreen
format on the flip side.
While widescreen TVs have an aspect ratio of 1.78 (16+9 = 1.78), many filmed movies
are even wider (for example 2.40). When very wide movies are transferred to wide-
screen DVDs, the manufacturer may proportionally reduce the move to fit the TV
screen width. In this case, it will be normal to see black mattes at the top and bottom of
a very wide movie.
• To determine your DVD's format, check the DVD jacket.
• If the package is not clearly marked, view the DVD using the "Standard" image size
setting and use the table below to choose the best setting.
