• If INPUT 1 is used for another video component, consider using an S-video connec-
tion on either VIDEO 2, VIDEO 3, or VIDEO 8.
ABOUT 480p/720p/1080i VIDEO-COMPONENT OUTPUT SETTINGS
Video components that may have 480p/720p/1080i component-video outputs include:
• Digital cable set-top boxes
• Digital satellite set-top boxes
• ATSC digital TV tuner set-up boxes
• D-VHS (digital) videocassette players
• Other high-definition players
These video components may have switches on the outside of the unit, or on-screen
menu settings, to choose component video output formats. A switch or menu item may
be labeled "Output Resolution".
• 480p, 720p, and 1080i formats appear only on component video (Y Pb Pr) outputs.
Connect these outputs only to the VIDEO 4 or VIDEO 5 inputs on the HDTV moni-
tor.
• If the video component provides only 480i component video (YPbPr), connect it to
the VIDEO 1 input on the HDTV monitor for the best performance.
Choosing a Setting
• Choose "No Conversion" if available. Any necessary conversion (scaling and dein-
terlacing) will be performed automatically by the high-performance circuits in the
HDTV monitor.
• If you know that the signal provided by your service originates in a specific format
(480p, 720p, or 1080i), select that format on the video component. Any conversion
that is needed (scaling and deinterlacing) will be performed by the circuits in the
HDTV monitor.
• Select 1080i to get excellent performance without experimenting.
• Try both 720p or 1080i and choose the best picture.
• If you are familiar with the technical details and performance of your video compo-
nent, choose a setting according to the following information:

Description
May not be available on all video components.
480p, 720p, and 1080i programs keep their format at the video component output.
The 6501MA HDTV monitor will display any of these inputs automatically.
1080i is the highest-resolution, high-definition broadcast format.
480p programs are upscaled to 1080i by the video component. The resulting 1080i is
downscaled and deinterlaced by the HDTV monitor.
720p programs are upscaled to 1080i by the video component. The resulting 1080i is
downscaled and deinterlaced by the HDTV monitor.
1080i programs have little or no resampling by the video component. The resulting
1080i is downscaled and deinterlaced by the HDTV monitor.
720p is the internal format of the 6501MA HDTV monitor. (The LCoS TM imagers are
1280 pixels wide x 720 pixels high and are operated in progressive-scan mode.)
480p programs are upscaled to 720p by the video component.
720p programs have little or no scaling by the video component.
1080i programs are downscaled and deinterlaced to 720p by the video component.
