• XDS--Extended Data Services (displays information including program type, MPAA
ratings, weather service bulletins, and more)
Closed Caption
• Select On Mute to display the closed captioning text when the remote control MUTE
key is pressed or when Mute is selected using the on-screen menu.
• Select On or Off to continuously show or hide closed captioning text.
Balance
• Adjust between L (left) and R (right) to compensate for an off-center seating loca-
tion.
Equalizer
• Choose and adjust the 5 individual audio ranges for the best sound.

Audio Output
The audio outputs are labeled AUDIO OUT: L and R on the rear panel. (The subwoofer
output is controlled separately.)
• Select Fix for fixed line-level output.
• Select Variable to have the line-level output follow the volume controls.
• Select Off to disable the audio outputs.
Nite Mode
• Select On for a preprogrammed audio response.
• Select Off to normal audio response.
Subwoofer
• Select On for variable line-level output.
• Select Off to disable the output.
Virtual Surround
• Select On to enable the Virtual Dolby ®Surround technology. For a description, see
page 63 in the glossary.
• Select Off for basic stereo operation.
Auto Volume Control
• Select On to automatically manage the volume. This may be used to limit extreme
changes in the volume level.
• Select Off to provide exact reproduction of the volume levels.
Internal Speakers
• Select On to use the HDTV monitor's internal speakers.
• Select Off to silence the HDTV monitor's internal speakers. This is usually desirable
when using a separate audio or home-theater sound system with the HDTV monitor.
