grams.
Picture Mode is also available through the on-screen menu. See "Picture Mode" on
page 41.
Aspect Ratio
See "Image Size-- Composite, S-Video and Component" on page 44 and "Image
Size-- PC Input and DVI" on page 46 for examples and additional information.
• Press one or more times to select one of the picture aspect ratio modes:
• Standard correctly displays TUNER 1 and TUNER 2, full-screen DVDs, most
VHS video tapes, camcorders, high-definition satellite boxes, high-definition
cable boxes, ATSC digital TV tuners, and D-VHS (digital) VCRs. Provides undis-
torted viewing of 1.33 (4:3) programming and undistorted viewing of 1.78 (16:9)
high-definition programming.
• Standard-Extended simulates a widescreen program from 4:3 images. They are
displayed with the sides stretched to fill the screen.
• Widescreen correctly displays all widescreen DVD videos. Common widescreen
DVD videos have movie aspect ratios of 1.78-2.40.
• Widescreen Zoom magnifies widescreen DVD videos by 7%. Intended for wide-
screen DVD videos with movie aspect ratios of 2.2-2.40, this minimizes the black
mattes at the top and bottom of the picture. Some cropping will occur on the
sides.
• Letterbox magnifies the image by 20%. Intended for letterbox DVD videos with
movie aspect ratios of 1.66.
• Letterbox Zoom magnifies the image by 33%. Intended for letterbox DVD vid-
eos with movie aspect ratios of 1.78-2.39.
• Letterbox Extend expands the vertical direction by 33%, and nonuniformly
extends the horizontal direction 33%. For letterbox DVD videos with movie a
aspect ratio of 1.66%. This eliminates the black mattes on the left and right of the
picture.
The following images sizes may be selected only through the on-screen menu. See
"Image Size-- PC input and DVI" on page 46.
• Exact Pixels (1:1) matches the input resolution to the screen, pixel by pixel, with
no scaling. This produces the sharpest computer text and graphics.
• Proportional fills the screen as much as possible while maintaining the correct
aspect ratio (except with 800x600 video).
• Fill Screen fills the screen (except with 800x600 video).
Layout
• Press once to access the screen layouts.
Use the • and • keys to choose the layout and the SELECT key to accept layout.
• Full Screen displays a single, screen-size, full-motion picture.
• PIP (picture in picture) displays a screen size full-motion picture, plus a full-
motion, resizable, movable, inset picture. One picture, but not both, may be from
a HD-component input (VIDEO 4 or 5).
• Split Screen displays two reduced-size, full-motion pictures. One picture, but not
both, may be from a HD-component input (VIDEO 4 or 5).
• POP 3 displays one reduced-size, full-motion picture plus three snapshot scans.
