480i Component Input
• DVD players
• Cable boxes
• Satellite boxes
Some video game boxes may have component video cable options. Some models of
the video components listed above may not have component outputs.
Some video components with component outputs (YPbPr) may also support 480p,
720p, and 1O8Oi output in addition to 480i. To use these with the VIDEO 1 input, set
the video component output to 480i, or connect the component to VIDEO 4 or
VIDEO 5.
If the video component has a component output (YPbPr), and the video component is
not marked progressive scan, 480p, 720p, or 1O8Oi, or does not mention those settings
in its instruction manual, the output is usually 480i.
• Connect the HDTV monitor's VIDEO 1 : 480i COMPONENT connectors to the
YPbPr, (green, blue, and red) connectors on the DVD player or other video compo-
nent.
• Connect the HDTV monitor's VIDEO 1: AUDIO IN: L and R connectors to the line-
level outputs on the DVD player or other component.
• Consult the instruction manual for your audio/video component for connection and
set-up information.

Hint
Progressive-scan DVD players should be connected to the VIDEO 4 or VIDEO 5
(480p/72Op/1080i) connections when a progressive scan mode is selected.
Turning off the progressive-scan feature of the DVD player (switching the output to
480i) and using the VIDEO 1 input may result in a better picture. To learn more, see
"About Deinterlacing and Progressive-Scan DVD Players" on page 58.
info Connecting a 480p, 720p, or 1080i signal to the 480i input will not harm the HDTV
monitor, but the video image will not display correctly.
