GoFlex Satellite™ User Guide 12
3. Using the
GoFlex Satellite™
Device
Now that the GoFlex Satellite™ device is set up, you are ready to copy your media files and
start enjoying your content. This chapter explains how to copy content to the drive, connect to
your GoFlex Satellite device’s wireless signal, and how to stream using the GoFlex Media™
app or from a Web browser.
Loading Content Onto the Drive
Copying your files to GoFlex Satellite is as easy as dragging and dropping your content to the
drive while it’s connected to your computer.
You can copy any file to the GoFlex Satellite drive, however, the device to which you stream
your media files will only play or view the formats it supports.
Note: It is the user's responsibility to comply with applicable copyright laws and to respect owner's
rights in content usage.
Converting Files to Different Formats
There are ways to convert (transcode) video files to different formats so they can be played
on your device. If you have files that you want to play from GoFlex Satellite that are
incompatible with your media device, you may want to transcode the files before copying
them to the drive.
Copying Content to the GoFlex Satellite Device
When the GoFlex Satellite device is connected to a computer, it behaves just like a typical
external hard drive. You can either drag and drop files from your computer or use the optional
content synchronization software.
Note: Once you copy your files to the drive, GoFlex Satellite performs a one-time scan of the
content. This scanning process occurs when the drive is powered up in wireless mode and
may take a little time if you copy a large amount of data. If you don’t see your content right
away, “pull up” the screen or click the refresh icon to refresh the files within the GoFlex Media
app, or click the refresh button to update the page you are viewing from a browser.
