Subject: Back Flow Prevention
Scotsman commercial ice machines are N.S.F. listed. One of the requirements of a N.S.F. listed ice machine is
back fl ow prevention of the potable water system. Scotsman Ice Machines have an air-gap between the end of
the machine’s inlet water path and the maximum water level in the reservoir as the back fl ow prevention de-
sign.
Because of the air gap, negative pressure in the water supply to the ice machine can only draw in air, not water
from the reservoir.
If back fl ow prevention is required on the water cooled condenser circuit, it will have to be added.
