performing an ON/OFF cycle will enable bi-directional RS-232 communication again if the local control
(LC) is OFF (see RS-232 Front Panel Configuration).
The optional Scientech keyboard provides direct access to a variety of preprogrammed weighing modes incorporated into your
Scientech balance. By following the simple instructions and examples, you will find that both complex and routine weighings
are easier than ever. This option may be purchased at any time but must be installed at the factory. To get started, plug the
keyboard connector into the mating connector at the rear of the balance with the power off. Then turn on the balance. You may
remove the keyboard connector at any time without disturbing the current balance mode of operation.
Numeric Keys
Numbers entered through the keyboard appear in the balance display after the numeric key is pressed. Numbers consisting of
seven digits plus a decimal may be entered. Key-in numbers by pressing the numeric keys in sequence. The decimal point must
be keyed in if it is part of the number.
Example: Key in the number 256.78 by pressing the keys 2 5 6 . 7 8 .
The display will read 256.78 .
Any numbers keyed into the display can be sent to peripheral instruments by pressing the Send key.
Clearing Numeric Entry
Pressing the CE (clear entry) key clears any number entered into the display and leaves the display blank awaiting the correct
entry. This key is useful for erasing errors made while entering numbers into the display. Errors can be cleared without
disrupting the mode of operation.
Clearing Programmed Operation
Pressing the C (clear-all) key erases all functions, returns the balance to its normal operating condition, and tares the balance
which returns the display to zero. Information entered into the balance storage registers is unaffected by the C key.
Sending Data to Peripherals
To send display data to an external device on command, press the Send key on either the keyboard or front panel.
If you desire the time and date to be sent to a peripheral device each time you press the Send key or for any send function:
1. Activate the balance time/date stamp using the 24 hour clock.
Example: If the time is 3:32:21 p.m., press 153221, Enter , 101 , Store . Register 101 is the time stamp.
If the date is September 12, 1998, press 091298 , Enter , 100 , Store . Register 100 is the date stamp.
The time/date stamp will remain current until the balance power is interrupted. If power interruption occurs, reset the time
and date. To check the time or date registers to see if they are set properly, press 100 , Recall or 101 , Recall on the
keyboard.
2. To have the time and date sent when you press the Send switch, press 0, Enter , 79 , Store .
3. To stop the time and date being sent when you press the Send switch, press 1 , Enter , 79 , Store .
You may send weight readings automatically at user specified time periods (see Automatic Periodic Send section of the keyboard
instructions). Weight readings may also be sent to a computer or printer continuously every 300 milliseconds (see the RS-232
Front Panel Configuration section for details). Weight readings may be sent automatically when the balance reaches stability (see
Selectable Filters section). An optional, factory installed, remote foot send switch is also available.
Storage Registers
The keyboard give you access to 50 memory storage registers (0 through 49). You may store up to a seven digit number plus a
decimal in these registers.
To store a number, press (desired number) , Enter , (register #) , Store .
To recall the number and display it on the front panel, press (register #) , Recall .
To send the contents of a specific register to a printer or computer, press (register #) , Recall , Send .
