How to Set Up RTP and HMI to PLC Communications
Introduction
Use these instructions to configure:
z run-time parameters: Run-time parameters (see page 247) (RTP)
communication provides access to island module information that is not
contained in the process image of the STB NIP 2311 NIM.
z HMI - PLC communications: HMI devices can be configured to communicate to
the PLC via the serial port on the STB NIP 2311 NIM.
NOTE: For purposes of simplicity of presentation, this example uses an I/O scanner
to perform RTP communication. A more efficient, if more complex, solution would be
to use MSTR blocks instead of the I/O scanner.
Configuring RTP
To configure the STB NIP 2311 NIM for RTP:
Step Action Comment
1 In the Unity Pro configuration page, click on
the box to the right of the Device Name field
for mySTB (on the IO Scanning tab).
The Property dialog box appears. No
fields can be selected.
2 Click on the Launch Advantys
Configuration Software button.
The Advantys Configuration Software
opens, displaying an image of the
Advantys island.
3 In the Advantys island, double-click on the
image of the STBNIP2311.
NOTE: If the island is locked, first click on the
unlock button, which resembles a key, to
unlock the island configuration for editing.
The module editor opens for the
STB NIP 2311.
4 Click on the Parameters tab, expand the
NIM Parameters List (if necessary), then
enter the following values in the Configured
Value column:
z Reserved Size (Words) of HMI to PLC
Table: 10
z Reserved Size (Words) of PLC to HMI
Table: 20
5 Press Apply.
6 Click on the Options tab, and select the
Configure run-time parameters checkbox.
7 Press Apply.
8 Press OK. The module editor closes.
