Introduction
Introduction
This chapter describes the Advantys STB NIP 2311 Dual Port Ethernet Modbus
TCP/IP network interface module (NIM) and its support for the island as an Ethernet
network node. The chapter begins with an introduction of the NIM and a discussion
of its role as the network adapter for the Advantys STB island. There is a brief
overview of the island itself, followed by a description of the major characteristics of
the Ethernet fieldbus protocol. Some information in this chapter is specific to the
STB NIP 2311 and some is common to all Advantys STB NIMs.
