Introduction to Schaefer
Letter from the President
Welcome to Schaefer’s 2013/2014 Source Book. I hope you can quickly and easily find
the ventilation or thermal comfort products you need to solve your or your customer’s
ventilation or thermal comfort problem. If not, please feel free to call our Customer Care
Center at 1.800.779.3267 to get your questions answered.
Although the 2013/2014 Source Book will look familiar to long-time Schaefer customers
and partners, there are lots of changes from 2012/2013 including these new products:
• The Americ
®
line of confined space
ventilators and accessories, which
Schaefer added in April of 2012.
(Page 10)
• Our new line of 54" panel fans and
slant wall exhaust fans. (Pages 7 & 30)
• A lightweight, portable tripod fan
stand with a quick release fan mount.
(Page 6)
• A humidity controller to limit the
amount of humidity added to the
environment by our WayCool
®
and
Pro-Kool
®
portable evaporative
coolers and BigDog
®
72" industrial
circulation fan. (Pages 8, 12 & 30)
• 42" Versa-Kool yoke mounted fans.
(Page 3)
• “Your Special Fan,” which is a service
that Schaefer provides where you can
source essentially any fan of any size that you might need to solve a particularly
challenging ventilation problem. (Page 17)
In addition to these new products, we have worked hard to provide detailed specication
and performance data and application pictures you need to select the right fan.
Accurate and reliable product specification and performance data is one of several
attributes that differentiates Schaefer and Schaefer fans. We test all of our fans in-house
using certied and calibrated test equipment and test our most in-demand fans at
AMCA-certied Bess Lab at the University of Illinois. Although many energy rebate
granting agencies will only accept results from Bess Lab, I want to assure you that
Schaefer’s in-house performance results are also accurate and reliable. In the 2013/2014
Source Book performance results obtained at Bess Lab are marked with BESS LAB and
in-house performance results are marked with
SCHAEFER
.
Circulation fan performance measurement and comparison is a particularly thorny issue
in 2013. At Schaefer, we test the performance of our circulation fans in accordance with
ANSI/AMCA Standard 230-12. Performance tests yield a thrust measurement, measured
in pounds force. ANSI/AMCA Standard 230-12 provides a formula for converting thrust
to airow rate (in cubic feet per minute) (Equation 9.6) which yields airow rates
approximately 29% lower than the formula in ANSI/AMCA Standard 230-99. In this
Source Book, we are continuing to use the formula from ANSI/AMCA Standard 230-99
unless otherwise noted. Given the current confusion about how to calculate airow
rates, Schaefer recommends that customers use thrust measurements to compare the
performance of different manufacturers’ circulation fans of the same diameter and to
use caution when comparing airow rates.
Thank you for your interest in Schaefer’s broad line of highly efcient, reliable and
innovative thermal comfort solutions. All of us at Schaefer look forward to working
with you.
Neil Crocker
