IEEE 802.11a/g Wireless LAN Type L
• Supports today's fastest data transfer
speeds using the "a" and "g" protocols.
• Backwards compatibility with the older
"b" standard.
• Typical distances for indoor use are
between 10 – 100 meters.
• Disables the printer's standard
10/100Base-TX port.
Provides true printing mobility with immediate cable-
free connection for multiple users simultaneously.
The IEEE 802.11a/g Wireless LAN interface supports
the latest "g" wireless standards and fastest possible
data transmission speeds of up to 54 Mbps in addition
to backwards compatibility with the older "b" standard.
Eliminates the need for cables in offices where adding
hard-wired cabling is not possible or cost-prohibitive,
such as in older or historic buildings, those featuring
brick/stone construction, etc.
Allows growing offices to add employees without
installing costly network drops.
Excellent choice for temporary needs, such as on-site
convention/trade show/event printing.
WPA-enabled (Wi-Fi Protect Access) to prevent outsiders
from intercepting wireless data streams.
Wireless Transmission Standards:
There are three standards for wireless data networking when the printer is connected via the IEEE 802.11a/g
Interface. This table outlines the frequency and transmission speeds of each:
Standard
Radio
Frequency
Data TX Speeds Advantage
IEEE 802.11a
5GHz
6/9/12/18/24/36/
48/54 Mbps
Fastest possible transmission speed supported in
US (not all countries support this standard).
IEEE 802.11b
2.4GHz
1/2/5.5/11 Mbps
Older standard for compatibility with legacy
wireless PC cards. Relatively slow speeds versus
newer standards.
IEEE 802.11g
2.4GHz
1/2/5.5/6/9/11/12/1
8/24/36/48/54 Mbps
Compatible with IEEE 802.11b networks, and
supports the faster transmission speed.
