I. Introduction The EchoPoint SMR-640P-101 MobileReader is a compact, lightweight, attachment unit that can be used with many off the shelf handheld or notebook computer, providing a simple wireless communication with all EchoPoint 600/640 tag product series.
II. Battery Charging Before using the SMR-640P-101 MobileReader it is strongly recommended to fully charge the unit’s internal battery. Note that the unit’s internal battery is not user replaceable. To charge the battery use provided AC to DC wall adapter and connect it to the unit’s power jack as shown on the following picture. III. Communication with the PC The SMR-640P-101 MobileReader can be connected to any computer equipped with standard RS232 interface. The reader is configured as a DCE device and therefore does not require NULL modem adapter when connected to the PC. IV. Using the RFID SMR-640P MobileReader The following pictures show examples of connecting and using the reader with off the shelf handheld device. When using the SMR-640P MobileReader for scanning EchoPoint tag(s) it is recommended to keep hand off of the top unit’s cover for best communication range. To change system parameters select Setup from the pull up menu when tapping on the Tools icon in bottom left corner. To allow handheld to receive ‘other’ tags (beacon, alarm or interrogated by other Signpost) clear the Signpost filter check box.
