Section 2D Controlling Your Roaming Experience In This Section ⽧ Understanding Roaming ⽧ Setting Your Phone’s Roam Mode ⽧ Controlling Roaming Charges Using Call Guard Roaming is the ability to make or receive calls when you’re off the network provided to you. Your new dual-band/tri-mode Sanyo SCP-4920 works anywhere on the network provided to you and allows you to roam on other analog and 1900 and 800 MHz digital networks where we’ve implemented roaming agreements with other carriers.
Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Display Screen Your phone’s display screen always lets you know when you’re off the network provided to you and whether your phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The following chart indicates what you’ll see depending on where you’re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networks When you roam on analog networks, you will experience a similar quality provided by other analog carriers today. Although some features, such as Sprint PCS Vision and Ready Link, will be unavailable, you can still make and receive calls and access voicemail. If you are accustomed to network service, you may notice some of the following differences when using analog service: 䢇 You are more likely to experience static, cross-talk, fade-out, and dropped calls.
Checking forVoicemail MessagesWhile Roaming When you are roaming off the network provided to you, you may not receive on-phone notification of new voicemail messages. Callers can still leave messages, but you will need to periodically check your voicemail for new messages if you are in a roaming service area for an extended period of time. To check your voicemail while roaming: 䊳 Dial 1+area code+your wireless phone number.
Controlling Roaming Charges Using Call Guard Your phone has two ways of alerting you when you are roaming off the network provided to you: the onscreen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard makes it easy to manage your roaming charges by requiring an extra step before you can place or answer a roaming call. (This additional step is not required when you make or receive calls while on the network provided to you.) To turn Call Guard on or off: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2.

Section 4A Safety In This Section ⽧ Getting the Most Out of Your Reception ⽧ Maintaining Safe Use of and Access to Your Phone ⽧ Caring for the Battery ⽧ Acknowledging Special Precautions and the FCC Notice ⽧ Consumer Information on Wireless Phones ⽧ Owner’s Record ⽧ User’s Guide Proprietary Notice Part of getting the most out of your Sanyo SCP-4920 wireless phone is learning how the phone works and how to care for it.
Getting the Most Out ofYour Reception Keeping Tabs on Signal Strength The quality of each call you make or receive depends on the signal strength in your area. Your phone informs you of the current signal strength by displaying a number of bars next to the signal strength icon. The more bars displayed, the stronger the signal. If you’re inside a building, being near a window may give you better reception.
Note: For the best care of your phone, only Sprint authorized personnel should service your phone and accessories. Faulty service may void the warranty. Maintaining Safe Use of and Access to Your Phone FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND POSSIBLE PROPERTY DAMAGE Using Your Phone While Driving Talking on your phone while driving (or operating the phone without a hands-free device) is prohibited in some jurisdictions. Laws vary as to specific restrictions.
Using Your Phone Near Other Electronic Devices Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from radiofrequency (RF) signals. However, RF signals from wireless phones may affect inadequately shielded electronic equipment. RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic operating systems and/or entertainment systems in motor vehicles. Check with the manufacturer or their representative to determine if these systems are adequately shielded from external RF signals.
Caring for the Battery Protecting Your Battery The guidelines listed below help you get the most out of your battery’s performance. 䢇 Use only Sprint-approved batteries and chargers. These chargers are designed to maximize battery life. Using other batteries or chargers voids your warranty and may cause damage. 䢇 In order to avoid damage, charge the battery only in temperatures that range from 32º F to 113º F (0º C to 45º C).
Acknowledging Special Precautions and the FCC Notice FCC Notice This phone may cause TV or radio interference if used in close proximity to receiving equipment. The FCC can require you to stop using the phone if such interference cannot be eliminated. Vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (propane or butane) must comply with the National Fire Protection Standard (NFPA-58). For a copy of this standard, contact the National Fire Protections Association, One Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269, Attn.
Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) forWireless Phones The SAR is a value that corresponds to the relative amount of RF energy absorbed in the head of a user of a wireless handset. The SAR value of a phone is the result of an extensive testing, measuring and calculation process. It does not represent how much RF the phone emits. All phone models are tested at their highest value in strict laboratory settings. But when in operation, the SAR of a phone can be substantially less than the level reported to the FCC.

RF waves and RF fields have both electrical and magnetic components. It is often convenient to express the strength of the RF field in terms of each component. For example, the unit “volts per meter” (V/m) is used to measure the electric field strength, and the unit “amperes per meter” (A/m) is used to express the magnetic field strength.
FDA, EPA and other US government agencies responsible for public health and safety have worked together and in connection with WHO to monitor developments and identify research needs related to RF biological effects. What levels of RF energy are considered safe? Various organizations and countries have developed standards for exposure to radiofrequency energy. These standards recommend safe levels of exposure for both the general public and for workers.

While the FCC does not have the expertise to determine radiation exposure guidelines on its own, it does have the expertise and authority to recognize and adopt technically sound standards promulgated by other expert agencies and organizations, and has done so . model. The FCC ID number is usually printed somewhere on the case of the phone. Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the battery pack to find the number. Once you have the ID number, go to the following Web address: www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid. On this page, you will see instructions for entering the FCC ID number. Type the FCC ID number exactly as requested (the Grantee Code is the first three characters, the Equipment Product Code is the rest of the FCC ID number). Then click on “Start Search.
user from RF absorption use special phone cases, while others involve nothing more than a metallic accessory attached to the phone. Studies have shown that these products generally do not work as advertised. Unlike “hand-free” kits, these so-called “shields” may interfere with proper operation of the phone. The phone may be forced to boost its power to compensate, leading to an increase in RF absorption.
the antenna. Therefore, RF exposure on the ground is much less than exposure very close to the antenna and in the path of the transmitted radio signal. In fact, ground-level exposure from such antennas is typically thousands of times less than the exposure levels recommended as safe by expert organizations. So exposure to nearby residents would be well within safety margins.
be brought to the FCC’s attention by contacting the FCC RF Safety Program at: 202-418-2464 or by email: rfsafety@fcc.gov. Does the FCC maintain a database that includes information on the location and technical parameters of all the transmitting towers it regulates? Each of the FCC Bureaus maintains its own licensing database system for the service(s) it regulates (e.g., television, cellular service, satellite earth stations.) The FCC issues two types of licenses: site specific and market based.
produce heating effects causes no known adverse health effects. Many studies of low level RF exposures have not found any biological effects. Some studies have suggested that some biological effects may occur, but such findings have not been confirmed by additional research. In some cases, other researchers have had difficulty in reproducing those studies, or in determining the reasons for inconsistent results.
phones. Base stations are thus not the primary subject of the safety questions discussed in this document. What kinds of phones are the subject of this update? The term “wireless phone” refers here to hand-held wireless phones with builtin antennas, often called “cell,” “mobile,” or “PCS” phones. These types of wireless phones can expose the user to measurable radiofrequency energy (RF) because of the short distance between the phone and the user’s head.
that is directly applicable to human populations, but 10 or more years’ follow-up may be needed to provide answers about some health effects, such as cancer. This is because the interval between the time of exposure to a cancer-causing agent and the time tumors develop - if they do - may be many, many years. The interpretation of epidemiological studies is hampered by difficulties in measuring actual RF exposure during day-to-day use of wireless phones.
Again, the scientific data do not demonstrate that wireless phones are harmful. But if you are concerned about the RF exposure from these products, you can use measures like those described above to reduce your RF exposure from wireless phone use. What about children using wireless phones? The scientific evidence does not show a danger to users of wireless phones, including children and teenagers.
These agencies include the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Defense (DOD).
The NTIA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce and is responsible for authorizing Federal Government use of the RF electromagnetic spectrum. Like the FCC, the NTIA also has NEPA responsibilities and has considered adopting guidelines for evaluating RF exposure from U.S. Government transmitters such as radar and military facilities. The Department of Defense (DOD) has conducted research on the biological effects of RF energy for a number of years. This research is now conducted primarily at the U.
less than or greater than the actual RF emitted by the phone. This difference between the RF test measurement and actual RF emission is because test measurements are limited by instrument accuracy, because test measurement and actual use environments are different, and other variable factors. This inherent variability is known as “measurement uncertainty.
Owner’s Record The model number, regulatory number and serial number are located on a nameplate inside the battery compartment. Record the serial number in the space provided below. This will be helpful if you need to contact us about your phone in the future. Model: Sanyo SCP-4920 Serial No.
