1. Introduction Congratulations and thank you for your purchase of a new SANLI brush cutter. Your brush cutter has been designed and manufactured with utmost care in accordance with SANLI’s strict standards of safety, reliability and ease of operation. Properly maintained and adjusted, your new SANLI brush cutter will give you many years of trouble-free operation enabling you to fully appreciate its build quality, performance and ease of use.
2. Safety instructions Your SANLI brush cutter should be used at all times in accordance with the guidance given in this operator’s manual. 2.1 Safety labels and symbols IMPORTANT: Some of the symbols shown below may be found on the machine. Please locate, study and understand their importance. Correct interpretation of these symbols will result in effective machine use and minimal risk to safety. Danger! Warning ! Attention ! This symbol indicates a danger, a warning or a caution.
Wear protective gloves Wear robust anti-slip shoes or boots Wear eye and ear protection Fuel Use a 2 stroke fuel mixture of petrol and oil (see Section 4) 6 / Operator’s Manual Sanli GTS43
2.2 Before using the brush cutter Carefully read this operator’s manual. Familiarise yourself with the operation of the brush cutter and its correct use. Never allow the machine to be used by anyone who has not read and understood the instruction manual. Children should not use the machine. If the machine is given to other people, make sure you give them this manual. Never remove any labels, decals or safety components. Replace guards before use.
2.3 Using the brush cutter Only use the machine in clear daylight or with the help of good artificial lighting. The use of powered tools may be subject to regulations. Always respect any legal regulations, which may vary from one location to another. Do not use the machine when the vegetation is wet or when it is raining Do not use the brush cutter if you feel tired, unwell, have consumed alcohol or have taken medication. A momentary lapse of attention can lead to serious injury.
To avoid the risk of explosion, never use the brush cutter in areas where there are inflammable materials such as volatile liquids, gas or dust. To avoid fire risk, never start the machine close to fuel containers or areas where refuelling has taken place. WARNING: Some parts of the machine can become very hot and can cause severe burns. Always wear gloves and, specifically, never touch the engine or exhaust pipe until they have cooled. 2.
3. Usage Guidelines Making modifications to the brush cutter and/or using non-genuine parts that have not been authorised by SANLI UK can render the machine dangerous and may lead to serious injuries during use. SANLI UK cannot accept any liability for any type of misuse or for any use which does not conform to this instruction manual or to current regulations.
Installing the deflector guard Installing the deflector guard is best carried out with the machine resting on the engine and handlebars to provide clear access to the deflector support as shown in figure 5. Position the deflector guard onto its support and screw in the four fixing screws, not forgetting the two metal reinforcements as shown in figure 6.
Installing the nylon spool Unscrew the nut and remove the brake ring and the support ring, as described above and shown in figure 7. Keep them in a safe place until needed to secure the cutter blade. Screw the spool into place, turning in an anti-clockwise direction (figs. 9 and 10). Turn the nylon spool anti-clockwise 3.12 Filling the brush cutter’s fuel tank WARNING: Petrol is highly inflammable. Handle with the utmost care to avoid risk of fire, burns or explosion.
Avoid spilling petrol by not overfilling the fuel tank. Leave a small space beneath the tank’s rim to allow for expansion. Replace the tank cap correctly and hand tight. If any petrol is spilled, do not start the engine. Remove the machine from the area of spillage and carefully wipe it dry. Do not start the machine until all petrol vapours have fully evaporated.
Locking button Start/Stop switch Open choke Closed choke Pull quickly and firmly on the starter handle, keeping hold of the handle as it returns to its rest position. Repeat until the engine fires. After 15 to 30 seconds with the engine running, return the choke to its open (run) position, as shown . Holding the safety lever down with the palm of the hand, press the throttle trigger with your index finger.
3.24 Advice for cutting Cut the grass by swinging the cutter head steadily from left to right, moving slowly forward keeping the deflector guard parallel to the ground. Taking a light cut is always preferable to a heavy cut as it allows the grass to be thrown well clear of the spinning nylon spool, helping prevent it from becoming choked with grass. To cut tall grass, work progressively from the top down to the base of the grass. Never cut damp grass and do not overload the machine.
3.3 Cleaning, storage, transport and maintenance Always switch off the engine and allow the machine to come to a complete stop before attempting any maintenance or adjustment of the brush cutter. 3.31 Cleaning the brush cutter Cleaning the machine after every use will help ensure that it performs with maximum efficiency and has a long and effective working life. Clean the surface of the machine with a soft damp cloth. Never clean the plastic with a chemical product that might damage it.
Cleaning the air filter Remove the top of the air filter housing (item 12 on machine component diagram). Carefully remove the foam filter element and wash in warm water mixed with a few drops of washing up liquid until the element is perfectly clean and all traces of grease and dirt have disappeared. WARNING: Never clean the filter in petrol, white spirit or any other solvent, as these products can cause deterioration to the filter foam. Replace the filter element if it is damaged or becomes very dirty.

5. Troubleshooting Problem The machine does not start/ does not run The engine runs but the nylon spool does not turn Possible causes Solution The ‘Start/Stop’ switch is in the STOP position Move the switch to the START position. The air filter is dirty Clean or replace the filter The spark plug is dirty and/or badly adjusted Clean it and set the electrode gap to 0.
6. Environmental Protection To help protect the environment, we recommend the following actions: Use unleaded 95 RON petrol for your two-stroke fuel mixture Use a funnel or flexible spout to avoid spilling fuel when filling the tank Do not leave the engine running with the choke applied Do not fill the fuel tank to the top. Leave a little space beneath the rim to allow for fuel expansion. Keep the air filter and the spark plug clean and in good condition.
