Get Started This section gives you all the information you need to set up your phone and Sprint service the first time. Set Up Your Phone Activate Your Phone Set Up Voicemail Sprint Account Information and Help Set Up Your Phone You must first install and charge the battery to begin setting up your phone. Important: Close your phone before removing the cover and inserting the battery. 1. Install the battery.
Replace the battery compartment cover, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are no gaps around the cover. 2. Insert the USB cable into the phone’s Charger/Accessory jack. 3. Plug the charging head into a standard AC power outlet. Always use a Sprint-approved or Samsung-approved desktop charger, travel charger, or vehicle power adapter to charge your battery.
Note: The front LED turns red to indicate the battery is currently charging. ► When the phone is powered off, plug the flat end of the charger into the phone’s charger jack and the other end into an electrical outlet. The phone turns on and indicates its charge state via the battery icon. Warning! While the device is charging, if the screen does not function due to an unstable power supply, unplug the USB power adapter from the power outlet or unplug the USB cable from the device.
1. Turn on your new phone. (Make sure the old one is turned off.) Your phone will automatically attempt Hands-Free Activation. 2. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process. 3. After you have completed the wizard, make a phone call to confirm your activation. If your phone is still not activated or you do not have access to the Internet, contact Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727 for assistance. Tip: Do not press while the phone is being activated. Sprint Account Passwords As a Sprint customer, you enjoy unlimited access to your personal account information, your voicemail account, and your data services account. To ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create passwords to protect your privacy. Account User Name and Password If you are the account owner, you will create an account user name and password when you sign on to sprint.com. (Click Sign in/Register and then click Sign up now! to get started.

Phone Basics Your phone is packed with features that simplify your life and expand your ability to stay connected to the people and information that are important to you. The topics in this section will introduce the basic functions and features of your phone.
Your Phone’s Layout The illustrations and descriptions below outline your phone’s basic layout. Key Functions ● Display displays all the information needed to operate your phone, such as the call status, the Contacts list, the date and time, and the greeting. ● Navigation Key allows you to scroll through the phone’s menu options and acts as a shortcut key from standby mode. ● Option Key (left) lets you select softkey actions or menu items corresponding to the bottom left line on the Display Screen.
● Mic allows other callers to hear you clearly when you are speaking to them. ● Back Key deletes characters and numbers from the display in text entry mode. When in a menu, pressing the Back key returns you to the previous menu. This key also allows you to return to the previous screen in a data session. ● End/Power Key lets you turn the phone on or off, end a call, or return to standby mode. While in the main menu, it returns the phone to standby mode and cancels your input.
Turn Your Phone On ► Press and hold . Turn Your Phone Off ► Press and hold . Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the battery is charging). Your Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for your phone’s applications, functions, and menus. For information about modifying the Home screen appearance, see Display. Status Bar The status bar at the top of the Home screen provides phone and service status information on the right side and notification alerts on the left.
1x Data Status – 1x data service is available. When active, the icon is animated. 3G/2G Data Dormant – 3G/2G data service is currently dormant. Battery – Shows your current battery charge level. (Icon shown is fully charged.) Low battery – Shows your current battery charge level is low. Location On – Your phone’s location feature is on and available for locationbased services such as GPS Navigation. Location Off – Your phone’s location feature is off. Your location is available only for 911.
Alarm – An alarm has been set on your phone. Missed Alarm – You have missed an alarm event. Calendar Event – You have a pending event scheduled. Multiple Alerts – You have multiple alert messages. Self Timer – The self-timer function is enabled. Auto – The white balance has been set to Automatic. Use this for taking pictures indoors or outdoors using automatic white balance settings. Daylight – The white balance has been set to Sunny. Use this for taking pictures or movies outdoors on bright sunny days.
Bluetooth Headset Connected – The Bluetooth Headset is connected and visible. Bluetooth Hidden – The phone is hidden to other Bluetooth phones and not transmitting its information. Text Message – You have new text messages. Voicemail – You have new voicemail messages. Missed Call – You have missed an incoming call. Missed Text Message – You have new unread text or email messages. Missed Scheduler – You have missed a scheduled event.

You can also place calls from your phone by speed dialing numbers from your Contacts using your History listings and Voice Services. Call from Logs You can make a call directly from your History list. 1. Press > History. 2. Highlight an entry and press . Note: You cannot make calls from History to entries identified as No Caller ID or Restricted. Call from Contacts You can dial phone numbers directly from your Contacts list. 1. Press > Contacts. 2.
My Phone # (left softkey) to display your MSID and device phone number during an emergency call. Unlock (right softkey) to unlock your phone (appears only if the phone is locked). Exit Emergency Mode 1. Press to end a 911 call. 2. Press and to exit Emergency mode. Enhanced 911 (E911) Information This phone features an embedded Global Positioning System (GPS) chip necessary for utilizing E911 emergency location services where available.
If you set CALL ANSWER to Talk Key, you also see the following options. To select an option, highlight it and press . ● Answer to answer the incoming call. ● Silence to set the ringer to silent mode. ● Send to VoiceMail redirects the call to your voicemail. ● Ignore with Text to immediately send the caller a text message.
● By sounding the assigned ringer type. ● By displaying within the Notifications area of the Status bar when a single new unheard voicemail message is received. Phone Call Options Your phone application provides many useful features and options to help you make the most of your calling experience.
1. Place your call to the first recipient. 2. Once you have established the connection, press OPTIONS (right softkey) > 3-way call. (Your first call is automatically put on hold.) 3. Select one of the following: Contacts to choose a caller from your Contacts list. Recent History to use your History list to locate a call recipient. Enter phone number to manually enter the call recipient’s phone number. 4. Press after you highlight the appropriate contact or enter the phone number. 5.
● Messages to display your current messages (Voicemail, text messages, etc.). ● Recent History to view your call histories. ● Tools to access the Tools menu. For more information, see Tools and Calendar. Speed Dialing You can store up to 98 numbers in your phone’s speed dial memory. Dial speed dial entries using one keypress for locations 2–9 or two key presses for locations 10–99. Use One-Touch Dialing for Speed Dial Locations 2–9 ► Press and hold the appropriate key for approximately two seconds.
Shortcut: You can also press from standby mode to display your recent calls. Note: Logs record only calls that occur while the phone is turned on. If a call is received while your phone is turned off, it will not be included in your phone’s history. If you return a call from the voicemail menu, it will not be included in your phone’s history. Logs Options The following procedures will guide you through accessing and understanding your call log options. Accessing Log Options 1. Press . 2.
Save/Contact Details to view contact information. Note: This option displays only when the number is saved to the list of Contacts. Clear Logs Follow these steps to clear the Logs list. 1. Press . 2. Press OPTIONS (right softkey) > Delete All. 3. If you are certain you want to erase the Log, select DELETE (left softkey). - or Select CANCEL (right softkey) to return to the previous menu.
Settings The following topics provide an overview of items you can change using your phone’s Settings menus. Display Volume Ringers Accessibility Phone Information Lock Phone Location Parental Controls Reset/Delete Others Display You can customize the display screen on your phone such as by choosing wallpaper for the main screen and outer screen, changing the brightness and backlight control settings, and choosing a picture ID for your contacts.
Select Wallpaper for the Home Screen 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Display > Main Screen > Wallpaper. 2. Select No Image, Take New Picture, My Albums, Downloaded, or Preloaded and press . 3. When you have selected the image you want use as your wallpaper, press ASSIGN (left softkey). Select Wallpaper for the Outer Screen 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Display > Outer Screen > Wallpaper. 2.
All Contacts to assign the selected picture to all entries in your contacts list. One Contact to assign the picture to a single entry in your contacts list. 3. Select No Image, Take New Picture (see Take Pictures), My Albums, Downloaded or Preloaded and press . Assign a Picture ID to Unsaved Numbers 1. ● Backlight Dim is set to Always Dim. ● Backlight Off is set to 15 seconds. ● Keypad light is set to Off. Activate PowerSave Mode 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Display > PowerSave Mode. 2. Press On to activate the feature. 3. Read the feature definitions and press DONE (left softkey). Volume Adjust your phone’s volume settings to suit your needs and your environment. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Volume. 2. Select Incoming Ringer Volume, Playback Volume, or Key Beeps. 3.

Press to assign your selected ringer. Selecting Ringers for Alarm/Calendar To assign a ringer to your phone's alarm and calendar: 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Ringtone > Alarm/Calendar. 2. Select Downloaded, Preloaded, or No Ringer. 3. Use your navigation key to scroll through the available ringers.
Display Themes Voice Recognition You can use your phone’s built-in automatic speech recognition (ASR) software to dial a phone number in your Contacts or to launch phone functions. All you have to do press the Voice Recognition Button on the side of the phone and talk into the speaker, and ASR will recognize your voice and complete tasks by itself. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Accessibility > Voice Recognition. 2. Select Confirmation and select an option.
2. Select About. Voice Guide Voice Guide provides audible output of selected menu items. For example, in GRID VIEW of the main menu, if you highlight MESSAGES you will hear “Messages.” Enable Voice Guide 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Accessibility > Voice Guide > Readout. 2. Highlight On and press . Font Size The Font size option allows you to change the size of the fonts used on the phone. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Accessibility > Font Size. 2. Select Normal, Large, or Huge.
Phone Information Your phone provides information specific to your phone, such as the phone number, memory status, an icon glossary, your phone's software version, advanced information (channel, frequency, etc.), and information about your account. ► Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Phone Information. The following information is available: Phone Number/User ID displays your phone number and identification information.
Locking Your Phone 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Lock Phone and enter your lock code. 2. Select Lock Now. Unlocking Your Phone You must enter you lock code to unlock your phone. 1. From standby mode, press UNLOCK (right softkey). 2. Enter your lock code. Changing the Lock Code You can change your lock code through the Lock Phone settings menu. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Lock Phone and enter your lock code. 2. Select Change Lock Code, and then enter and re-enter your new lock code.
Note: Turning Location on will allow the network to detect your position using GPS technology, making some Sprint applications and services easier to use. Turning Location off will disable the GPS location function for all purposes except 911, but will not hide your general location based on the cell site serving your call. No application or service may use your location without your request or permission. GPS-enhanced 911 is not available in all areas. Enable the Location Feature 1.
3. If this is your first time to setup these controls, you will be asked to setup a parental lock code that manages the areas that will be locked via this menu. Enter a new four-digit Lock code. Re-enter the new code and press DONE (left softkey). Disable Parental Controls 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Parental Controls. 2. Use the navigation keys to toggle Parental Controls Off.
Web to restrict access to all data features such as Internet and other data usage. Camera to restrict access to the Camera functionality. Force Location On to protect GPS activity. Set the feature to On to always enable the GPS feature or Off to never allow access to GPS capabilities. 4. Press to return to the previous page. Reset/Delete Resetting the phone restores all default settings to your phone. Before you access this menu, you must enter your lock code.
4. Press DONE (left softkey) to delete the information from your phone. Change Lock Code You can change your lock code in the Reset/Delete menu as well as through the menu. For more information, see Lock Phone. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Reset/Delete. 2. Select Change Lock Code, and then enter and re-enter your new lock code.
Activate the Contact Match Feature 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Contact Match. 2. Select On or Off. Call Answer Select how to answer incoming calls on your phone: whether you want to press the Talk key, to press any number key, or simply to open the phone. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Call Answer. 2. Highlight an option and press . Any Key to allow you to answer an incoming call by pressing any key.
Word Completion: Set to On to have XT9 Predictive Text insert the most likely matching word entered automatically as you enter text, or choose Off. Use My Words: Set to On to have XT9 Predictive Text use words from your Personal Dictionary over other possible matches, or choose Off. Help: View information about XT9 Predictive Text.
► Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Data > Update Data Profile. (To cancel, press before completing the update.) Contact Match The Contact Match feature allows you to choose whether or not contacts matching the numbers you enter into the keypad display under the entry screen. This feature is turned on by default. To turn Contact Match off: 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Contact Match. 2. Highlight Off and press .
Note: If you’re on a call when you leave the Nationwide Sprint Network, your call is dropped. If your call is dropped in an area where you think Sprint service is available, turn your phone off and on again to reconnect to the network. 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Roaming > Roaming Mode. 2. Highlight an option and press . Sprint Only to access only the Nationwide Sprint Network and prevent roaming on other networks. Automatic to seek service on the Nationwide Sprint Network.
Hide/Show Secret to view the list of hidden contacts. My Name Card to enter information into a new personal name card or view information in your existing name card. Services to access shortcut dialing numbers for customer services. TTY Options A TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is a telecommunications phone that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone. Your phone is compatible with select TTY phones.

Contacts The Contacts application lets you store and manage contacts from a variety of sources, including contacts you enter and save directly in your phone. Get Started With Contacts Add a Contact Save a Phone Number Edit a Contact Add Emergency Contacts Send Contacts via Bluetooth Get Started With Contacts Your phone automatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically. Your phone can store up to 600 Contacts entries.
5. Highlight a label for the entry (Mobile, Home, Work, Pager, Fax, or Others) and press . 6. Highlight the additional option or options you want to add: Add Photo to assign a picture to the entry. Add Number to add a phone number to the entry. Email to add an email address. IM to add an Instant Messenger address to the entry. Ring to assign a custom ringtone to the entry. This custom ringtone will be played when an incoming call from this entry is announced.
To access a Contacts entry’s options: 1. From the Home screen, press CONTACTS (right softkey). - or Press > Contacts. 2. Highlight an entry and press . New Group to create a new group in which to assign contacts. Edit Contact to display the contact details screen and edit the current information. Delete Contact to remove the contact from the Contacts. Contact History to display the call related to that contact. Send Contact to forward the contact information to a Bluetooth.
1. Search for an existing contact name and press to save the new number. 2. Highlight a label for the entry (Mobile, Home, Work, Pager, Fax, or Others) and press . Edit a Contact Once you’ve added a contact, you can add or edit any of the information in the entry, assign a caller ID picture, customize with a unique ringer, and more.
5. Highlight a picture using the navigation keys and press ASSIGN (left softkey). If you selected Take New Picture, the camera will launch. Take a new picture and press ASSIGN (left softkey). See Take Pictures for more information. If you selected My Albums, tap the desired picture and press ASSIGN (left softkey). 6. Press DONE (left softkey) to save the picture assignment. Delete a Contact You can delete contacts from your contacts list. 1. Display a Contacts entry. 2.

ICE Options Within the IN CASE OF EMERGENCY screen, you can add personal information and additional messages you would like for the rescue responder to know. Personal Info 1.
3. Scroll up or down the Contact entry list using the Up and Down Navigation Keys. 4. Highlight an entry and press . A checkmark displays on the left side of the selected Contact entry. You can select multiple entries using the same process. 5. Press SEND CONTACTS (left softkey) 6. Highlight a paired Bluetooth phone to use and press SELECT (left softkey) > Yes.
Accounts and Messaging With Sprint service and your phone’s messaging capabilities, you have the opportunity to share information through many different channels and accounts. Text Messaging and MMS Text Messaging and MMS With Text Messaging (SMS), you can send and receive instant text messages between your wireless phone and another messaging-ready phone. Multimedia messages, or MMS, can contain text, pictures, and voice recordings. See your service plan for applicable charges for messaging.
Entering Text Using the Keypad Your phone provides convenient ways to enter letters, numbers, and symbols whenever you are prompted to enter text (for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when using text messaging). Selecting a Text Input Mode 1. From a screen where you can enter text, press OPTIONS (right softkey) to bring up messaging options. For more information, see Compose Text Messages. 2.
Tip: Set Callback # to add a phone number in the heading informing the recipient of alternate means to respond to the message. When entering text, press to change letter capitalization (abc > Abc > ABC). ABC Mode In Abc mode, also known as multi-tap entry, you press keys one, two, three, or four times to enter the letters you see on the keypad.
Note: Preset messages make composing text messages easier by allowing you to enter quick messages, such as “Meet me at,” “Can I call you?,” or a customized message of your own.
Applications and Entertainment All your phone’s features, such as applications, downloading games, ringers, and more, and shopping are accessible through the Applications list. Applications Downloading Games, Ringers, and More GPS Services Shopping Applications You can access a wide variety of applications in many different categories with your phone and data service. Get Started with Applications 1. Press > My Stuff > Applications. 2.
Downloading Games, Ringers, and More You have access to a dynamic variety of downloadable content, such as games, ringers, wallpapers, and other applications. (Additional charges may apply.) Accessing the Download Menus Downloading an Item My Stuff Manager Accessing the Download Menus Your phone's My Stuff menu gives you access to Games, Ringers, Wallpapers and Applications. 1. Press > My Stuff. 2.
Download a Selected Item 1. From the information page, select Buy. (The item will download automatically. When you see the New Download screen, you have successfully downloaded the item to your phone.) Note: If you have not previously purchased an item, you will be prompted to create your purchasing profile. 2. Select an option to continue: Select Use/Run/View to assign the downloaded item (or to start, in the case of a game or an application).

Your data session will end, and you will be redirected to the appropriate phone menu screen. Select Set as to assign a ringer or wallpaper to a phone function. Softkeys During a data session, the bottom line of your phone’s display contains one or more softkeys. These keys are shortcut controls for navigating around the Web, and they correspond to the softkeys directly below the phone’s display screen. To use softkeys: ► Press a softkey. (If you see an additional pop-up menu when you press the softkey, select the menu items using your keypad [if they’re numbered], or by highlighting the option and pressing Tip: .
Going Back To go back one page: ► Press the BACK key on your phone. Going Home To return to the home page from any other page: ► Press TOOLBAR (right softkey) > MY HOMEPAGE. Data Services FAQs Check our list of FAQs to answer questions you may have about your phone's data services. How will I know when my phone is ready for data service? Your user name (for example, bsmith01@sprintpcs.com) will be displayed when you press Settings/Tools > Settings > Phone Information > Phone Number/User ID.
You can sign out without turning off your phone; however, you will not be able to browse the Web or use other data services. While signed out, you can still place or receive phone calls, check voicemail, and use other voice services. You may sign in again at any time. Sign Out 1. Press > Settings/Tools > Settings > Others > Data > On/Off. 2. Press NEXT (left softkey) > Disable Vision and press . Browser The browser menu offers additional options to expand your use of the Web on your phone.
Send this page to copies the current Web address and attaches it to an outgoing text message. Clear private data allows you to delete the current browsing history, browser cache, cookies, and stored passwords. Help provides browser shortcut information.
Camera Taking pictures with your phone’s built-in camera is as simple as choosing a subject, pointing the lens, and pressing a button. Take Pictures Camera Settings Sending a Picture Assigning Photos Take Pictures You can activate the phone’s camera mode to take pictures whether the phone is open or closed. Take a Picture with the Phone Open 1. Press > Photos > Camera to activate camera mode. Additional camera options are available through the camera mode OPTIONS (right softkey) menu.
4. Press to return to camera mode to take another picture. Take a Picture with the Phone Closed Note: The keys are locked when the phone is closed. Press and hold the camera key and volume down key together to unlock the keys. 1. Press and volume down key together. 2. Point the camera lens at yourself with the phone closed. (You can check the picture framing through the subscreen.) 3. Press or to take the picture. (Your phone automatically saves the picture.
