It allows you to recharge your battery before it is fully drained. When the battery reaches a low capacity, the battery icon will blink, followed eventually by an audible alert and then power off.

Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your battery level becomes too low, your phone automatically turns off and you lose all of the information you were working on.
