4 Insert the battery. Charge the battery Before using the phone for the first time, you must charge the battery. You can charge the phone with the provided travel adapter or by connecting the phone to a PC with a PC data cable. 5 Replace the back cover. 10 Assembling Use only Samsung-approved chargers and cables. Unauthorised chargers or cables can cause batteries to explode or damage your phone. When your battery is low, the phone will emit a warning tone and display a low battery message.
›› Charge with the travel adapter 1 2 3 Plug the large end of the travel adapter into a power outlet. • You can use the phone while it is charging, but it may take longer to fully charge the battery. • While charging, the phone may heat up. This is normal and should not affect your phone’s lifespan or performance. • If your phone is not charging properly, bring your phone and the charger to a Samsung Service Centre.
›› Charge with the PC data cable Before charging, ensure that your PC is turned on. 1 2 3 4 Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the side of the phone. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the PC data cable into the multifunction jack. Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port on a PC. Depending on the type of PC data cable you are using, it may take some time before charging begins.
1 2 3 4 Remove the back cover. Insert a memory card with the gold-coloured contacts facing down. Push the memory card in the memory card slot until it locks in place. Replace the back cover. ›› Remove the memory card 1 2 Ensure that the phone is not currently using the memory card. Remove the back cover. 3 4 5 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from the phone. Pull the memory card out of the memory card slot. Replace the back cover.

Select a menu to assign to the shortcut key.
4 Select the items to display on the smart home screen. Available items may vary depending on your region or service provider. 5 Press → Save or press . You can change the idle screen to another style. In Menu mode, select Settings → Display → Smart home and select a style you want. 6 Press . To access the smart home items, press the Navigation key to scroll through the items on the smart home screen and press the Confirm key to select an item.
Once the phone lock is enabled, you must enter the password each time you turn on the phone. Samsung Service Centre to unlock it. Access a remote phone If a remote phone has the mobile tracker 2.0 feature and it is activated, you can hide or delete data, and get contact or location information of the remote phone. You can also lock the remote phone or important user data (messages, contacts, and files) and set the remote phone to divert all the incoming calls and messages to a specified phone. To delete data on the remote phone, To forward calls to another phone, 1 1 2 From the Access remote phone screen, select Delete user data. Press . A call log list, contacts, all messages, and data in My files of the remote phone will be deleted. To get contact information of the remote phone, 1 2 3 From the Access remote phone screen, select Get contact. Select Get group contacts or Get contact. To get all contact information, select Get all contacts.
To get location information, From the Access remote phone screen, select Get location information. • An SMS message that contains the location information will come in. To change the password for the mobile tracker, select Change mobile tracker password. Enter text Your phone is equipped with a QWERTY keyboard to support easy and quick text input. You can enter text as you would when using a computer’s keyboard. You can also use the following keys: Key Function Change case.
Communication Answer a call 1 When a call comes in, press [ ]. When the phone is ringing, press the Volume key to adjust the volume, or press and hold the Volume key to mute the ringtone. 2 To end the call, press [ Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related features. ›› Make and answer a call Reject a call When a call comes in, press [ tone. 2 Enter the complete number you want to dial (country code, area code and phone number), and then press [ ] to dial the number. You can change to another prefix. In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → All calls → Int'l call prefix. ›› Use the headset By plugging the supplied headset into the multifunction jack, you can make and answer calls: • To redial the last call, press and hold the headset button. • To answer a call, press and hold the headset button. • To end a call, press the headset button.
• To use the enhanced privacy mode, press → • • • • • Voice privacy. To dial a second call, dial a new number. To answer a second call, press [ ] when a call waiting tone sounds. The first call is automatically placed on hold. You must subscribe to the call waiting service to use this feature. To switch between the two calls, press [ ]. To end the calls, press [ ]. To make a three-way call, make a second call and press [ ] when connected to the second party.
5 6 Enter a number to reject. You can change the delay time before fake calls. In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → Fake call → Fake call timer. Select Match criteria and select an option (if necessary). 7 Press the Confirm key. 8 Repeat steps 4-7 to add more numbers. 9 Press → Save. 10 Press . Make a fake call You can simulate incoming calls when you want to get out of meetings or unwanted conversations.
You can also make fake calls appear more realistic by showing a caller's name or number. 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Settings → Call → Fake call. Enter a name and scroll down. Enter a number and select Save. Set call diverting Call diverting is a network feature to send incoming calls to another number that you specify. You can set this feature separately for several conditions when you are not able to answer calls, such as when you are already on the phone or when you are outside of the service area.
2 3 4 Select Enable. Enter a phone number and press . Follow the instructions from your service provider. Logs Learn to view and manage logs of calls you have dialled, received, or missed and messages you have sent, or received. ›› View call and message logs You can view logs of your calls and messages filtered by their types. 1 2 3 Select a log to view its details. From the detail view, you can dial the number, send a message to the number or add the number to the phonebook or reject list.
Messages 4 Learn to create and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages you have sent or received. You may incur additional charges for sending or receiving messages while outside your home service area. For details, contact your service provider. ›› Send a text message 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Messages → Create new message → Text message. ›› Send a multimedia message 1 Enter a recipient number.
5 6 7 Press → Add Multimedia. Select an option and add an item. You can select a file from the file list or capture a photo, video, or sound clip. Press the Confirm key to send the message. ›› View a message Messages you have received, sent or saved are sorted automatically into the following message folders. • Inbox: Received text messages. • Email inbox: Received email messages. • Sentbox: Sent messages. • Outbox: Messages that are currently sending or waiting to be sent.
• To save a number from the message, select Add to contacts. • To register the number or text to the spam list, select Block by. • To protect the message from accidental deletion, select Protection on. ›› Use message templates Learn to create and use text templates to quickly and easily create new messages. To create a text template, 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Messages → My folders → Templates. Press → Create to open a new template window. Enter your text and press the Confirm key.
1 2 3 4 5 6 In Menu mode, select Messages → Settings → SOS messages → Sending options. Press to turn on the SOS messaging feature. Scroll down to Recipients and press to open the recipient list. Enter a recipient number and press the Confirm key. Scroll down to Repeat and set the number of times to repeat the SOS message. Press . To send an SOS message, the keys must be locked. Press the Volume key 4 times.
4 Customise the settings for the account by following the screens. Option Function Account name Enter a name for the account. Email address Enter your email address. Email password Enter your password. SMTP server SMTP port Enter the address of the SMTP server (outgoing server). Enter the port number of the SMTP server. SMTP user ID Enter your user name. Secure connection Retrieve server type POP3 server/ IMAP4 server Select a security protocol for the SMTP server.
5 6 When you are finished, press . Select an account to use. Set up an email profile 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Settings → Applications → Browser. Press → Add. Customise the network settings. Option Function Profile name Enter the name for the profile. Home URL Enter the MMS server address. PPP Digit Enter the PPP calling number. PPP User name Enter the PPP user name. PPP Password Enter the PPP password. PPP Auth type Select an authentication type.
5 6 Press → Attach items and attach a file. You can select a file from the file list, capture a photo, or record a video, or sound clip. Press the Confirm key to send the message. ›› View an email message 1 2 3 4 5 In Menu mode, select Messages → Email inbox. Select an email account. Instant messenger Learn to chat with friends and family from any of the universal instant messengers, such as Palringo. This feature may be unavailable depending on your region or service provider.
Entertainment 2 Aim the lens at the subject and make any necessary adjustments. Camera Learn how to capture and view photos and videos. You can capture photos at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels (2 mega pixels) and videos at resolutions 176 x 144 pixels. ›› Capture a photo 1 In Menu mode, press and hold [ ] to turn on the camera. • The camera interface appears only in the landscape orientation. • The camera automatically turns off when you do not use it for a specified period.
3 Press [ ] or press the Confirm key to take a photo. The photo is saved automatically. After capturing photos, press < photos. > to view the captured • To view more photos, scroll left or right. • To send the photo to others via multimedia message, • • • • • • • email or the Bluetooth wireless feature, press < > → Send via → an option. To delete the photo, press < > → Delete. To set the photo as wallpaper or a caller ID image for a contact, press < > → Set as.
2 3 4 5 Press < > → Shooting Mode → Mosaic shot. Scroll to an image layout and press the Confirm key. Make any necessary adjustments. Press [ ] or the Confirm key to take photos for each segment. ›› Capture a photo with decorative frames 1 2 3 4 5 In Menu mode, press and hold [ camera. ] to turn on the Press < > → Shooting Mode → Frame shot. Scroll to a frame and press the Confirm key. Make any necessary adjustments.

Select the new playlist. Press → Add tracks. Select the files you want to include and press . 46 Entertainment ›› Customise music player settings 1 2 In Menu mode, select Music player → Settings.
FM radio 4 Key Learn to listen to music and news on the FM radio. To listen to the FM radio, you must connect the supplied headset, which serves as the radio antenna. Confirm Navigation Plug the supplied headset into the phone. In Menu mode, select Apps → FM radio. Press the Confirm key → . The FM radio scans and saves available stations automatically. The first time you turn on the FM radio, you will be prompted to start automatic tuning. Function Turn the FM radio on or off.
›› Add radio stations to the favourites list 1 2 3 4 5 Plug the supplied headset into the phone. In Menu mode, select Apps → FM radio. Press the Confirm key to turn on the FM radio. Scroll to the radio station you want. Press → Add to → Favourites. ›› Record songs from the FM radio 1 2 3 4 5 6 Plug the supplied headset into the phone. In Menu mode, select Apps → FM radio. Press the Confirm key to turn on the FM radio. Scroll to the radio station you want. Press → Record → .
Games and more Learn to use games and applications powered by awardwinning Java technology. To play a game or application, 1 2 In Menu mode, select Apps → Games and more. Select a game or application from the list and follow the on-screen instructions. • Available games or applications may vary depending on your region or service provider. • Controls and options of games or applications may vary.
Personal information 4 Contacts 1 2 Learn to create and manage a list of your personal or business contacts stored on the phone’s memory or a UIM card. You can save names, mobile phone numbers, home phone numbers, email addresses, and more for your contacts. ›› Create a contact 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Contacts. Press → Create contact → a memory location (phone or UIM card). Enter contact information.
›› Set favourite numbers 1 2 3 4 Scroll to a contact to assign. Press → Add to favourites. Select a favourite number you want. The contact is saved to the favourite number. You can now call this contact from Idle mode by pressing and holding the assigned favourite number. ›› Create your namecard 1 2 3 4 In Menu mode, select Contacts. In Menu mode, select Contacts. Press → Settings → My namecard. Enter your own personal details. Press the Confirm key.
›› Copy contacts 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Contacts. Scroll to a contact. Press and select a copy option (from the phone to the UIM card, or from the UIM card to the phone). Calendar Learn to create and manage daily, weekly or monthly events, and set alarms to remind yourself of important events. ›› Create an event 1 2 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Calendar. Press → Create → an event type. 52 Personal information 3 4 Enter the details of the event as required. Press .
3 Select an event to view its details. You can send the event to others by pressing → Send via → an option. ›› Stop an event alarm ›› View memos 1 2 If you set an alarm for a calendar event, the alarm will sound at the specified time. To stop the alarm, press . Memo Learn to record important information to save and view at a later date. ›› Create a memo 1 2 3 4 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Memo. Press . Enter your memo text. In Menu mode, select Organiser → Memo.
4 When you are finished, press . Your memo is saved automatically. To record more voice memos, press the Confirm key and repeat steps 3-4. ›› Play a voice memo 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Apps → Voice recorder. Press → Go to My files to access the voice memo list. Select a voice memo. You can send the voice memo to others by pressing → Send via → an option.
›› Start synchronisation After configuring sync settings, you can synchronise your data with the Exchange server. 1 2 3 3 In Menu mode, select Apps → Exchange active sync. Select Email → Inbox. Press → Sync. ›› Change the synchronisation schedule If you routinely synchronise your data via an Exchange server, you can configure settings for both peak and off peak schedules. 4 Set the following options: • Peak schedule: Set the frequency of synchronisations during peak hours.
Web 1 Browser 2 3 Learn to access and bookmark your favourite web pages. • You may incur additional charges for accessing the web and downloading media. For details, contact your service provider. • Available icons may vary depending on your region. ›› Set up an internet profile To access the network and connect to the internet, you must activate a connection profile. In addition to profiles that are preset by your service provider, you can add your own connection profile.
›› Bookmark your favourite web pages You can bookmark web pages you frequently visit for quick access. While navigating the web, press
Option Function Samsung Apps Set cookies Set whether or not to save cookies. Security setting Enable or disable the connection using security protocols. Delete cookies saved in the phone; Cookies are pieces of personal information sent to a web server while navigating the web. Clear the cache; The cache is a temporary memory location that saves information from recently accessed web pages. Delete all records about web pages you have visited. Restore the web settings to the factory default.
Community websites UTK Learn to quickly access community services, such as Twitter or Facebook. You can receive SMS-based information, such as weather, stocks, or sports or access call services. 1 2 3 4 This feature is available only when you use a UIM card that provides additional services. In Menu mode, select Comms. Select a community website. Enter your user name and password and sign in. Share photos, videos, or messages with your friends and family. 1 2 In Menu mode, select Air services → UTK.
Mobile TV You can watch your favourite shows wherever you are. You can get a lot of top notch channels to choose from Mobile TV. • You may incur additional charges for watching TV. • The performance of the mobile TV feature may differ depending on your service provider's network or the provider of content. 1 2 In Menu mode, select Mobile TV. Watch the Online TV and use various Mobile TV services.
Connectivity • Samsung is not responsible for the loss, interception, or misuse of data sent or received via the Bluetooth wireless feature. • Always ensure that you share and receive data with devices that are trusted and properly secured. If there are obstacles between the devices, the operating distance may be reduced. • Some devices, especially those that are not tested or approved by Bluetooth SIG, may be incompatible with your phone.
›› Find and pair with other Bluetooth1 2 3 4 enabled devices In Menu mode, select Apps → Bluetooth. Select Search for new device. Select a device Enter a PIN for the Bluetooth wireless feature or the other device’s Bluetooth PIN, if it has one, and press . When the owner of the other device enters the same PIN or accepts the connection, pairing is complete. If the pairing is successful, the device will automatically search for available services.
›› Send data using the Bluetooth wireless 1 2 feature Select a file or item, such as a contact, calendar event, memo, or media file, from an appropriate application or My files. Press → Send via → Bluetooth, or select → Send namecard Via → Bluetooth. ›› Receive data using the Bluetooth 1 2 wireless feature Enter the PIN for the Bluetooth wireless feature and select (if necessary). Select to confirm that you are willing to receive data from the device (if necessary).
2 3 Using an optional PC data cable, connect the multifunction jack on your phone to a PC. Run Samsung PC studio and use wireless connections or copy data and files. Refer to the Samsung PC studio help for more information. ›› Connect as a mass storage device If you insert a memory card in the phone, you can access the file directory of the memory card by using the phone as a memory card reader. 1 2 Insert a memory card into the phone.
Tools ›› Stop an alarm Alarms • Press to stop the alarm. • Press to silence the alarm for the snooze Learn to set and control alarms for important events. ›› Set a new alarm 1 2 3 4 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Alarms. Press → Create alarm. Set alarm details. When you are finished, press or the Confirm key. When the alarm sounds, period. ›› Deactivate an alarm 1 2 3 4 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Alarms. Select the alarm you want to deactivate.
Calculator Learn to perform mathematical calculations directly on your phone like a typical hand-held or desktop calculator. 1 2 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Calculator. Use the keys that correspond to the calculator display to perform basic mathematical operations. Converter Learn to convert currencies and units of measurement from one form to another. ›› Perform a conversion 1 2 In Menu mode, select Organiser → Converter → a conversion type.
Dictionary Learn to look up English words in your dictionary. ›› Look up a word 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Apps → Dictionary. Enter an English word. Select the word. To add the word to your dictionary, press → Save in my vocabulary. ›› View the history 1 2 ›› View my vocabulary list 1 2 3 In Menu mode, select Apps → Dictionary. Scroll left or right to My vocabulary. Select a word from my word list. Image editor You can edit images and apply fun effects.
5 6 7 Adjust the image as desired and press . When you are finished, press → Save as. Enter a new file name for the image and press → Save → . ›› Apply a blur effect to a specific area of 1 2 3 4 an image Open an image to edit. Press → Partial effects → Partial Blur or Red Eye Reduction. Move the rectangle or circle over the area you want to apply the effect and press the Confirm key.
›› Crop an image 1 2 3 4 Open an image to edit. Press → Crop. 4 5 Move or resize the visual feature or text and press → Done. Save the edited image with a new file name. Move a rectangle over the area to crop and press the Confirm key. To resize or reshape the rectangle, press → Resize or Shape. Mobile prayer Save the edited image with a new file name. ›› Activate the mobile prayer ›› Insert a visual feature 1 2 Open an image to edit.

Stopwatch Timer Learn to record the time of an event as you would with a traditional stopwatch and lap timer. • Default memory: Select the default memory location to use when transferring data, capturing images and videos, or recording voice memos or the FM radio. • Clear phone memory: Erase the selected data from your phone’s memory. Formatting a memory card will permanently erase all selected data from the phone's memory. Reset Reset various settings to the factory default values. You must enter your phone password to reset the settings.
Troubleshooting When you turn on your phone or while you are using the phone, it prompts you to enter one of the following codes: Code Try this to solve the problem: Password When the phone lock feature is enabled, you must enter the password you set for the phone. Incoming calls are not connected • Ensure that your phone is turned on. • Ensure that you have accessed the right cellular network. • Ensure that you have not set call barring for the incoming phone number.
The battery does not charge properly or the phone turns off Error messages appear when launching the camera • The battery terminals may be dirty. Wipe both gold- Your Samsung mobile phone must have sufficient available memory and battery power to operate the camera application. If you receive error messages when launching the camera, try the following: coloured contacts with a clean, soft cloth and try charging the battery again.
Error messages appear when opening music files A connection is not established when you connect the phone to a PC Some music files may not play on your Samsung mobile phone for a variety of reasons. If you receive error messages when opening music files on your phone, try the following: • Ensure that the PC data cable you are using is compatible • Free some memory by transferring files to a PC or with your phone. • Ensure that you have the proper drivers installed and updated on your PC.
