Before You Start About the Product Capacity Representation Standard About the capacity representation of the storage The capacity of the storage device (HDD, SSD) of the manufacturer is calculated assuming that 1KB=1,000 Bytes. However, the operating system (Windows) calculates the storage device capacity assuming that 1KB=1,024 Bytes, and therefore the capacity representation of the HDD in Windows is smaller than the actual capacity due to the difference in capacity calculation. (E.g.

Ergonomic tips Maintaining the proper posture during computer use is very important to prevent physical injury. Improper or prolonged keyboard use may result in repetitive strain injury. The upper arm and forearm should form an angle that is slightly greater than a right angle, with the wrist and hand in almost a straight line. •• Use a light touch when typing or using the touchpad and keep the hands and fingers relaxed. Avoid rolling the thumbs under your palms or supporting the wrists on the desk while typing.

Using the computer while holding a phone on your shoulder or with your neck may lead to muscle strain or injury.

Keyboard Chapter 2. Using the computer The appearance and color of the keyboard may differ with the model. Function keys These operate various program functions. You can use them differently depending on the program. Windows keys You can open the Windows Start Menu. Additional keys You can delete/enter/edit text or move the cursor up or down the page or to the beginning or end of a line. Application key This works as the right mouse button.
Mouse Chapter 2. Using the computer A mouse is a user interface that enables users to move the cursor and pointer on the screen. The appearance and color of the mouse may differ depending on your computer model. Wheel button Moves the pointer up and down. Left button Selects and launches an item. Click function Briefly press the left mouse button once. If you click this mouse button once, the corresponding program is selected. Right button Shows the contextsensitive menus of programs.

Turn the wheel upwards or downwards and the screen is scrolled up or down accordingly. Drag function Dragging refers to clicking an item and moving the item to another position while holding the mouse button down.

Using the computer A CD drive is optional and may differ depending on your computer model. 2 When the CD tray opens, place a CD or DVD in the tray so that the printed side of the disk faces upwards. 3 Push the CD tray to close it. For detailed specifications, refer to the catalogue. •• Do not insert a cracked or scratched CD. Otherwise, the CD may break and damage the optical disk drive when the CD rotates at a high speed.

Press the Eject button for the optical disk drive to open the CD tray. Eject button Do not insert small discs such as 80mm CDs into the computer when the computer is vertical. To use small discs, place the computer on its side. 2 When the CD tray opens, place a CD or DVD in the tray so that the printed side of the disk faces outwards.

If a dummy card or a memory card adapter is inserted in the memory card slot, remove it. Insert a memory card into the memory card slot in the indicated direction.

Using the computer Format the memory card to remove all data or before using it for the first time. •• To use a memory card to exchange data with a digital device, such as a digital camera, formatting the data with the digital device is recommended. Formatting a memory card deletes all data saved on the card. If necessary, back up important data before formatting the card. •• Data protected by copyright laws cannot be reviewed or modified.
Connecting an External Display Device Connecting the computer to an external display device can be useful for presentations or when watching a movie. Chapter 2. The visual quality is sharper when a display device is connected through the HDMI/DVI port rather than the analog monitor port (RGB) port.

Connecting an External Display Device Setting up HDMI TV (Optional) By connecting the computer to a TV with a HDMI port, you can enjoy both a high visual quality and a high sound quality. After connecting a TV through HDMI, you have to configure the screen and sound. Setting up HDMI TV screen If the Desktop screen displayed on the TV does not fit to the TV screen, configure it as follows depending on the graphics card.

Right-click over the Desktop and click Graphics Properties. If a window appears where you can select the mode, select Basic Mode and click OK. 2 Click Display > General Settings, select Customize Aspect Ratio in the Scaling field, fit the Desktop to the TV screen and click OK.

Connecting Speakers For this computer, audio ports are provided at the front and back. You can connect 5.1 channel analog speakers to the ports at the back. Chapter 2. Connecting Speakers Chapter 2. Using the computer Connecting Analog Speakers You can connect up to 6 speakers to the audio jacks on the rear panel of the computer for 5.1 channel sound. For one jack, you can connect two speakers (right and left). Adjusting the Volume You can adjust the volume using the keyboard and the volume control program. The Volume icon appears on the taskbar when speakers or headphones are connected to the computer. Wired Network A wired network is a network environment used for a company network or broadband internet connection at home. Chapter 2. Wired Network Using the Function is a function that activates the system from Sleep mode when a signal (such as a ping or magic packet command) arrives over the network (wired LAN). Samsung Update Use Samsung Update to install and update Samsung applications and drivers on the computer easily and conveniently. This application enables the user to search for or download the BIOS, drivers, and applications over the Internet. Keep the computer performing better and more stably with Samsung Update. Chapter 2. BIOS Setup The BIOS Setup enables you to configure your computer hardware according to your needs. •• Use the BIOS setup to define a boot password, change the booting priority, or add a new device. •• Since incorrect settings may cause your system to malfunction or crash, take care when configuring the BIOS. BIOS Setup Chapter 3. Settings and Upgrade System Setup Keys The keyboard image may differ from the actual keyboard. In the Setup, you have to use the keyboard. F1 Press to view the Setup Help. Up & Down Keys Press to move up and down. F5/F6 Press to change the item value. F9 Press to load the default Setup settings. ESC Press to return to a higher level menu or to move to the Exit menu. Left & Right Keys Press to move to another menu. Enter Press to select an item or to enter a sub menu.
Setting a Boot Password If you set a password, you have to enter the password when you turn the computer on or enter the BIOS Setup. By configuring a password, you can restrict system access to authorized users only and protect data and files saved on the computer. •• The password setting provides the following 3 sub menus. (Supervisor Password, User Password and HDD Password) •• Do not lose or forget your password. •• Do not let others know your password.
Setting a Boot Password 3 4 Enter a password, press , re-enter the password for confirmation, and press again. Chapter 3. Settings and Upgrade 59 Setting a User Password The password can be up to 20 alphanumeric characters. Special characters are not allowed. Using the User Password, you can turn the computer on but you cannot change the major settings of the BIOS Setup because you cannot enter the BIOS Setup. The supervisor password has been set.
Setting a Boot Password Setting up a Hard Disk Drive Password (Optional) If you set a password for a hard disk drive, it cannot be accessed from another computer. Press in the Set HDD Password item and define a password as described in Step 3 of the Setting up the Supervisor Password. •• The hard disk drive password setting function is not provided for some models.

Insert a Phillips (cross-shaped) screwdriver into the slot and tilt it toward the outside, then shake from side to side to detach the bracket.

Close the cover and connect external cables, including the power cable. Turn on the computer and refer to the manual for the card you purchased separately to install necessary drivers and programs. Adding memory Check that there is a memory socket to be used for expansion on the main board and then prepare memory that can be used in your computer. Chapter 3. Settings and Upgrade 3 74 Insert the memory in the direction of the socket and slot and push until it is completely installed. DDR4 memory is installed on this computer. To add a memory, you need to add the same kind of DDR4 memory. 1 2 Lie the computer on its side and open the cover. Push the clips on both sides of an empty memory socket.
Adding the hard drive (HDD) (for 400T7A/400T7B models only) Parallel (IDE) hard drive connections are not available on this computer’s main board, so you cannot use parallel (IDE) hard drives with it. 1 2 4 75 Remove power cables or signal cables connecting the current hard drive. Adding the hard drive (HDD) (for 400T7A/400T7B models only) 5 6 Insert the new hard drive and secure it with four screws. 7 Connect the power cable and signal cable to the hard drive and then install the hard drive case in the computer. Chapter 3. Settings and Upgrade 76 Connect the other end of the new hard drive’s signal cable to the main board’s SATA 2 port. The hard drive supporting SATA 3.0 should be connected to the SATA1 port to operate it with the SATA 3.0 feature.
