Installation Guide

A quality mixture of cement, lime, sand, fi bers and special additives.
Used to build, decorate and damproof dry stack concrete block walls.
Can also be used to strengthen existing mortared or dry stacked block
walls. Structural applications where safety is a concern should be
designed and approved by a licensed engineer.
SAFETY:
READ and UNDERSTAND the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using
this product. WARNING: Wear protective clothing and equipment. See HMIS
block. For emergency information, call CHEMTREC at 800-424-9300
or 703-527-3887 (outside USA). KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
PREPARATION:
Concrete masonry units should be dry, clean and free of dirt, grease and
paint. Remove any deteriorated materials
that will interfere with bonding.
Dry Stack Block Walls:
When laying a new block wall fi rst construct a sound footing below the
frost line. Level the fi rst course of block on each fl oor in a full bed of
mortar or SAKRETE® Surface Bonding Cement. If mortar is used wait four
hours; if SAKRETE® Surface Bonding Cement is used wait one hour. Stack
the remaining courses without mortar from corners in a running bond
pattern. Butt the blocks together. Fill gaps larger than 1/4 inch (6 mm) with
SAKRETE® Surface Bonding Cement prior to coating the wall.
Existing Masonry Wall:
Clean surface as directed above. Fill existing voids in block wall with
SAKRETE® Surface Bonding Cement.
MIXING:
Empty the contents into a mortar box, wheelbarrow or mechanical mixer.
When mixing by hand, form a crater for adding water. Add approximately 5
- 6 quarts (4.7 – 5.7 L) of water per 50 lb.(22.6 kg) bag or enough to achieve
a workable mix. If too stiff, add more water a little at a time. Avoid a soupy
mix. Excess water reduces strength and durability and can cause cracking.
In cold weather use warm water to accelerate the set. Use cold water to slow
the set in hot weather.
PLACEMENT:
Dampen but do not saturate masonry surfaces before applying SAKRETE®
Surface Bonding Cement. Apply material at a minimum thickness of 1/8-inch
(3.2 mm). For structural applications apply material to both sides of the block
wall.
CURING:
In hot weather lightly dampen the material as needed to promote adequate
curing. In cold weather adequately cover and keep from freezing for a mini-
mum of 24 hours. Protect from rain for 24 hours. Do not apply SAKRETE®
Surface Bonding Cement if temperature will fall below 50° F (10° C) within
24 hours.
COVERAGE:
One 50 lb. (22.6 kg) bag will cover 35-40 sq. feet (3.25-3.7 sq. meter) at 1/8
inch (3.2 mm) thick.
