SDS

Indication of immediate
medical attention and special
treatment needed
Treat patient symptomatically.
General information
If you feel unwell, seek medical advice (show the label where possible). Ensure that medical
personnel are aware of the material(s) involved, and take precautions to protect themselves. Show
this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Avoid contact with eyes. Wear safety glasses.
5. Fire Fighting Measures
Suitable extinguishing media
Treat for surrounding material.
Unsuitable extinguishing
media
None known.
Specific hazards arising from
the chemical
During fire, gases hazardous to health may be formed.
Special protective equipment
and precautions for firefighters
Firefighters should wear full protective clothing including self contained breathing apparatus.
Fire-fighting
equipment/instructions
In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray.
Specific methods
Cool containers exposed to flames with water until well after the fire is out.
General fire hazards
No unusual fire or explosion hazards noted.
Hazardous combustion
products
May include and are not limited to: Hydrogen chloride. Oxides of sodium.
Explosion data
Sensitivity to mechanical
impact
Not available.
Sensitivity to static
discharge
Not available.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal precautions,
protective equipment and
emergency procedures
Keep out of low areas. Keep unnecessary personnel away. Keep people away from and upwind of
spill/leak. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate
protective clothing. For personal protection, see section 8 of the SDS. Avoid contact with eyes.
Methods and materials for
containment and cleaning up
This product is miscible in water. Prevent entry into waterways, sewer, basements or confined
areas. Following product recovery, flush area with water. For waste disposal, see section 13 of the
SDS. Before attempting clean up, refer to hazard data given above. Use broom or dry vacuum to
collect material for proper disposal without raising dust. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the
contaminated surface and allow to evacuate through the sanitary system. Prevent entry into
waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.
Environmental precautions
Do not contaminate water.
7. Handling and Storage
Precautions for safe handling
Avoid breathing dusts from this material. Avoid contact with eyes.
Use good industrial hygiene practices in handling this material.
Conditions for safe storage,
including any incompatibilities
Store in original tightly closed container. Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated
place. Store away from incompatible materials (see Section 10 of the SDS). Keep out of reach of
children.
8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
Occupational exposure limits
No exposure limits noted for ingredient(s).
Biological limit values
No biological exposure limits noted for the ingredient(s).
Exposure guidelines
This material does not have established exposure limits.
Appropriate engineering
controls
TWA PEL: No specific limits have been established for sodium chloride, potassium chloride or
calcium chloride (soluble substances). As a guideline, OSHA (United States) has established the
following limits which are generally recognized for inert or nuisance dust. Particulates Not
Otherwise Regulated (PNOR): 5mg/cu.m. Respirable Dust 8-Hour TWA PEL, 15mg/cu.m. Total
Dust 8-Hour TWA PEL.
TWA TLV: No specific limits have been established for sodium chloride, potassium chloride or
calcium chloride (soluble substances). As a guideline, ACGIH (United States) has established the
following limits which are generally recognized for inert or nuisance dust. Particulates (insolubles)
Not Otherwise Classified (PNOC): 10mg/cu.m. Inhalable Particulate 8-Hours TWA TLV,
3mg/cu.m. Respirable Particulate TWA TLV.
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control airborne
levels below recommended exposure limits. If user operations generate dust, fumes, or mist, use
ventilation to keep exposure to airborne contaminants below the exposure limit.
