NOTE: Our water testing technologies are very precise. However,
due to the small sample volume, test values are for informational
purposes only (not intended for regulated testing). When
collecting water from a faucet, choose a cold water tap. It is
important to correctly match and record each sample location to
the respective vial's cap-color (recorded on Panel A).
Remove the (two) 50 mL sample vials from the package insert
(one with yellow cap, one with red cap).
Choose your water sampling location(s):
Two sample vials provide you with multiple choices for testing.
Please read and understand the instructions provided on this
panel and in their entirety before collecting your water samples.
A) Same Sample Location/Same House
(First Draw & Flush Draw):
This choice for testing allows you to check for Lead concentrations
coming from the plumbing fixtures in your home (Pipes, Solders,
Faucets etc.) vs. Lead concentrations in your water supply (city
water or well water). Please mark Sample Location 1 as "First Draw"
and then mark Sample Location 2 as "Flush Draw" on Panel A (also
include the correct sample location, such as "kitchen faucet" etc.).
When you receive your lab report, simply subtract the Flush Draw
test result from your First Draw test result. This gives you the
net-value of Lead being contributed to your drinking water, by the
plumbing fixtures in your home (if any). You can also read the lab
report to see if any Lead is coming from your water supply system
outside of your home (supply lines to your home or the water
supply itself). Yellow Vial (First Draw) - collect this sample when
you first turn the faucet on in the morning (the water system in
the entire house must not be used previously to collecting your
water sample for a minimum of 6 hours, including all faucets,
toilets etc.). Red Vial (Flush Draw) - allow the water to continue
to run from the same faucet for about five minutes and then collect
the second water sample. NOTE: To confirm that you have zero lead
being contributed by all plumbing fixtures in your home, it is
recommended that you test each faucet location, (at a minimum
where oral ingestion is possible by family members or pets).
B) Two Different Sample Locations in the Same House.
C) Two Different Buildings on the Same Property.
D) Two Different Buildings on Different Properties.
If you are sampling from multiple faucets or from multiple
locations (choices B, C or D at left), consider the following:
If your primary interest is, the Combined Lead Concentration
from the respective location's plumbing fixtures & the
location's water supply, then fill the vial for that chosen
location, immediately after turning the water on (first thing
in the morning). If your primary interest is to know the
Individual Lead Concentration coming from the location's
water supply only, then allow the water to run for 5 minutes
before sampling. Prepare For Sample Collection: Remove
the caps from each vial but only do so when you are ready to
collect each water sample. Reduce the flow of water to about
the diameter of a pencil, tilt the vials slightly, and slowly fill
them just above the 50 mL mark. Do not overflow the vials.
Leave an air-space between the 50 mL water level and the
respective cap.
Place the caps on the vials. Keeping the caps level, turn the
caps clockwise until “firmly tightened”. Do not overtighten!
Shake the vials to make sure they are not leaking. If they are
leaking, remove the caps and repeat step above.
Place the two vials (with yellow and red caps) in the plastic
bag provided. Seal the bag.
Please make sure that the information requested
on the box-flap (Panel A) is filled out completely
and legibly. Please make sure you have properly registered
your sample with us online (as noted on Panel A). This will
allow your test results to arrive correctly and on time.
Place the vials (keep them sealed inside the plastic bag)
back into the same slot they were shipped to you in.
Close the flap which has your information written on it
over top of the water samples and secure the flap on
all edges with tape.
Place the Return Mailer in your mailbox or drop it off at
the Post Office.
Free USPS postage is provided. However, if you prefer
to rush ship your water sample to our lab, simply place your
sealed package inside another secure box, choose
your desired method of express shipment (at your own
expense), and ship to EnviroTestKits, 635 Green Road,
Madison, IN 47250.
We will send you an easy-to-read lab report by email
(or USPS at your request). To view the time frame in which
you can expect to receive your test results, please go to
safehometestkits.com and click on this specific model
of test kit. Time frames only include business days in our
lab and do not include time that your water sample is in
transit to our lab, nor weekends, nor holidays, nor the day
of receipt.
CONTENTS NEEDED FOR SAMPLE
COLLECTION AND SHIPPING
Shipping Package which holds all of the contents
for this test kit. This will be used as a free return
shipping container and will transport your water
sample directly to our laboratory.
Small Plastic Bag which will be used to place
your two sample vials into for return shipping.
Two, 50 mL Sample Vials (one with a red cap
and one with a yellow cap).
