c. Install closing side throttle cable barrel fitting
and throttle cable in throttle spool and top cable
guide fitting. The larger cable guide fitting on
the bottom is for the cruise control cable. Cruise
control kits are available as an accessory.
See Picture 26.
d. Neatly route the throttle cables to minimize bends.
If the cruise control kit is used, ensure that the cruise
control arm does not contact the cylinder head. Open the
throttle to wide open, and check for interference. Early
S&S
®
Cycle Big Fin heads will have interference with the
cruise control arm. Clearance cylinder head fins as
required. Failure to rectify any interference with the
throttle operation may result in personal injury and/or
property damage.
e. Throttle cable adjustment will occur after the
manifold and throttle body screws are tightened.
E. Install Head Breather Fittings and Hose
1. Head Breather Fittings
a. Install breather fittings in heads. See Picture 27.
Apply red Loctite
®
to threads and tighten the
breather fittings as follows: Harley-Davidson
®
Twin Cam 88
®
(
3
/8") fittings to 14-16 ft-lbs (168-
192 in lbs). Evolution
®
(
1
/2") fittings to 19-21 ft-lbs
(228-252 in-lbs). Hardware for both Evolution
®
and Twin Cam 88
®
engines is included in the kit.
See Picture 28 for component placement.
b. Install breather hose between breather fittings
and connect to the throttle body vent tube.
Trim the ends of the vent hose as required.
Use the spring clamps provided in the kit.
See Picture 29.
NOTE - An undesirable air flow restriction in the breather
system will exist if the breather hose is pushed down until it
bottoms on the vent tube.
