Proper Belt Handling: Improper belt handling before and during belt installation can dramatically shorten the life of a secondary drive
belt. To avoid causing damage to the belt, follow the guidelines below:
DO NOT CRIMP THE BELT
CAUTION
Belt crimping occurs when the belt is exed so far that it takes a permanent “set”. Once this happens the tensile cords are damaged. This will result
in premature failure.
To avoid this, follow these guidelines while handling the belt:
NOTE: After the belt is properly installed, the belt can be used on sprockets smaller than ve inches in diameter.
• Do not forward bend a drive belt (bending the belt so that the teeth move towards each other) tighter than a ve inch diameter.
• Do not back bend a belt (bending the belt so that the teeth move away from each other) tighter than a ten inch diameter.
DO NOT TWIST THE BELT
• This includes coiling the belt, so that it takes up less space.
DO NOT USE TOOLS TO PRY THE BELT INTO POSITION
Belt Installation Procedure
1. Remove old belt by following the instructions in your factory service manual.
2. Inspect the belt drive components for excessive wear or damage.
3. Install new belt according to factory service manual.
Belt Adjustment
1. Adjust belt to the specications called out in the factory service manual.
NOTE: For high performance situations, less belt deection (within the specied range) will yield the best belt performance.
Belt Maintenance
1. Periodically check belt for damage.
2. Oil, grease, dirt and other contaminants should be regularly cleaned o of the belt with a light cleaner.
