Packing Instructions:

for #50-9578 S&S Engine Shipping Crate

Introduction

S&S engine shipping crates are designed to provide a safe and secure method for packing and shipping engines to S&S for warranty or

remanufacturing service.

NOTE: S&S Cycle assumes no liability for damages incurred during shipping to or from S&S, and strongly recommends that contents be insured for an

appropriate amount. Should damage occur, the carrier must be notied immediately.

Packing an engine in the crate is simple and straightforward as explained in the following instructions. The crate comes complete with everything

you will need for assembly except packing tape. The engine will be held in place and protected by preformed foam packing blocks that are form

tted to a v-twin big twin engine.

Due to heavy weight of an engine, care must be taken to avoid back strain or other injury while placing the engine in the crate or when

moving the crate. S&S recommends that a hoist be used if possible.

1. Protect the rocker boxes of the engine with sheets of plastic wrap. See Picture 1, below

Picture 2 Picture 3 2. Place left and right foam bottom packing blocks in the bottom of the crate. Note the indent on the left block for the sprocket shaft of the engine. See Pictures 2 and 3 above. 3. Place front and rear foam packing blocks in the crate as shown above. It may be necessary to trim the front block for generator style engines. See Picture 4 below. Picture 4 NOTE: These blocks will not be used for Harley-Davidson® Twin Cam 88B™ or other Harley-Davidson engines with internal balancers.

5. Carefully lower engine into box so that it fits into and is protected by the foam packing blocks. Use a hoist if possible to avoid back strain or injury. Picture 5 6. Make sure the sprocket shaft of the engine rests in the provided recess in the left foam packing blockas shown in Picture 6, below. Picture 6 7. Place the plastic bag provided over the engine and secure it to prevent foreign material from entering the engine. See Picture 7, below.

8. Place the top packing blocks on the engine so the rocker boxes fit in the recesses provided. See Pictures 8 and 9 below. Picture 8 Picture 9 10. Tape the top of the box shut with high strength packing tape. 2" or wider plastic tape or fiberglass reinforced paper tape is acceptable.
