The Detector
CAUTION: The mica surface of the Geiger tube is fragile and should be handled with care. Be careful not to let
anything penetrate the screen.
The Inspector EXP uses a two-inch, thin window Geiger tube, commonly called a “pancake tube.” The screen
on the probe of the Inspector EXP is called the window Figure 4 (1). It allows alpha and low-energy beta and
gamma radiaon, which cannot get through the metal probe handle, to penetrate the mica surface of the tube.
The small radiaon symbol on the back of the probe indicates the center of the Geiger tube.
The Input/Output Ports
The Output Port Figure 2 (9)
The Output port allows you to interface the Inspector EXP to a computer, data logger, or other device.
The USB Port Figure 2 (10)
The USB Port above the Output jack allows you to interface the Inspector EXP
to a PC for use with the Observer Soware. For details, see Chapter 7 Observer
Soware.
The BNC Connector
The BNC connector is used to connect the
external EXP probe to the base unit. Check
that the cable is rmly connected to both
the probe end and the base unit to ensure
proper operaon of the Inspector EXP.
When using the carrying case, close the ap
prior to connecng the cable to the base
unit.
