OPERATION CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK Battery packs for this tool are shipped in a low charge condition to prevent possible problems. Therefore, you should charge them until the green LED on the front of the charger comes on. NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged. Allow several cycles (operation followed by recharging) for them to become fully charged.
OPERATION CHARGING A HOT BATTERY PACK When using the tool continuously, the batteries in the battery pack will become hot. You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge. When the battery pack becomes discharged and is hot, this will cause the green LED to come on instead of the red LED. After 30 minutes, reinsert the battery pack in the charger.
OPERATION SWITCH TRIGGER DIRECTION OF ROTATION SELECTOR (FORWARD/REVERSE/CENTER LOCK) REVERSE See Figure 5. To turn the drill ON, depress the switch trigger. To turn it OFF, release the switch trigger. VARIABLE SPEED The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed and torque with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure. NOTE: You might hear a whistling or ringing noise from the switch during use. Do not be concerned; this is a normal part of the switch function.
OPERATION TWO-SPEED GEAR TRAIN TWO-SPEED GEAR TRAIN (HI-LO) See Figure 7. The drill has a two-speed gear train designed for drilling or driving at LO (1) or HI (2) speeds. A slide switch is located on top of the drill to select either LO (1) or HI (2) speed. When using drill in the LO (1) speed range, speed will decrease and unit will have more power and torque. When using drill in the HI (2) speed range, speed will increase and unit will have less power and torque.
OPERATION 2. SPEED 1. APPLICATION • Lag screws up to 3/8 in. dia. by 1-1/2 in. long • Hole saw up to 2 in. • Spade bits up to 1-1/2 in. • Drill bits up to 1/2 in. • Drilling into metal • Concrete screws 1/LOW 3. MODE DRILL MODE (TORQUE ADJUSTMENT NOT ACTIVE) 2/HIGH DRIVE MODE • Drill bits up to 1/4 in. • Deck or wood screws up to 3 in. • Self tapping screws 1/LOW • Deck or wood screws up to 2 in. • Small screws or delicate work that requires more control 2/HIGH • Deck or wood screws #8 up to 1 in.
OPERATION BIT STORAGE See Figure 11. When not in use, bits provided with the drill can be placed in the storage areas located on the base of the drill. MAG TRAY™ See Figure 12. The magnetic tray conveniently stores screws or other small parts. MAGNETIC BIT HOLDER See Figure 12. The magnetic bit holder extends the reach of the bit and holds the bit and screws until you are ready to drive them. Storage for the bit holder is located on the front of the tool’s base.
OPERATION USING THE AUXILIARY HANDLE ASSEMBLY See Figures 14 - 15. An auxiliary handle is packed with the drill for ease of operation and to help prevent loss of control. The handle can be mounted on the opposite side for left or right hand use. DEPTH STOP ROD CLAMP ADJUSTING THE AUXILIARY HANDLE ASSEMBLY AUXILIARY HANDLE ASSEMBLY See Figure 14. To adjust the auxiliary handle assembly. n Loosen the handle assembly by turning the handle counterclockwise.
OPERATION INSTALLING BITS CHUCK JAWS See Figure 16 - 17. n Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation selector in the center position. UNLOCK (RELEASE) CHUCK SLEEVE n Open or close the chuck jaws to a point where the opening is slightly larger than the bit size you intend to use. Also, raise the front of the drill slightly to keep the bit from falling out of the chuck jaws. n Insert the drill bit. n Tighten the chuck jaws on the drill bit.
OPERATION DRILLING WOOD DRILLING n Check the direction of rotation selector for the correct setting (forward or reverse). For maximum performance, use high speed steel bits for wood drilling. n Secure the material to be drilled in a vise or with clamps to keep it from turning as the drill bit rotates. n Select normal drilling mode. n Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point. Increase the speed as the drill bit bites into the material.
