Fireplace Mortar
Item 63, 63B, 63G

Withstands temperatures up to 2000°F

Description:
Fireplace Mortar is a high temperature resistant
silicate mortar for repairing cracked and chipped
firebrick and repointing mortar joints in a firebox.
When air dried and heat cured, it becomes as hard
and strong as firebrick.
Performance Characteristics:
As hard as firebrick after proper curing.
Adheres well to masonry
May be painted when heat cured
Does not contain asbestos
Recommended Uses:
It is the best choice for joining masonry to masonry.
Use it to tuckpoint between firebricks and repair
broken firebricks where the cracks are 1/8” or less.
It Can be layered for deeper cracks.
Surface Prep:
Clean crumbling brick, mortar and soot from the
area to be repaired. Brush on water to wet the work
area thoroughly. Use in temperatures between 40°F
and 100°.
Application:
Cut the nozzle tip at an angle with an opening not
less than 1/4” x 1/8”. Put the cartridge in a standard
caulking gun. Fill the crack or hole with the mortar
and smooth with a putty knife dipped in water.
Protect new mortar from direct water contact until
fired. Air dry for 24 hours, but no longer than 30
days. Start a low fire, keeping the temperature
below 220°F until mortar has dried thoroughly. Then
increase heat for the final cure. Heat for 1-2 hours
at 500°F. If crack or joint is more than 1/8”,
multiple layers may be applied. Allow 24 hours to
cure between layers. When tack free, heat for final
cure. For deeper cracks (>0.25”), use Castable
Refractory Cement, Item 600.
Coverage:
Approximately 99 linear feet with a 1/8” bead
Clean up:
Clean mortar off surfaces before it dries using a wet
cloth. Clean up spills with warm water immediately.
Dried mortar must be scraped or chipped away.

Limitations:
Not for exterior use. Use Rutland Chimney
Masonry Patch, item 89 for exterior use. If mortar is
not heat cured, a white powder will form on the
surface and it will lose adhesion. Does not adhere to
metal. Do not use where excessive joint movement
