PRODUCT APPLICATION
SURFACE PREPARATION
Failure to follow this preparation method may result in poor
adhesion and possible coating failure. If the composite deck
has previously applied coatings such as paint, stain or
sealer remove/strip prior to starting. Check the composite
deck for loose or extremely damaged boards and make
necessary repairs prior to starting the project.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from
any surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS
TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE
SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE;
ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH
approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up
carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you
start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by
contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-
424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.)
SURFACE PREPARATION (cont.)
Clean the composite deck surface with RockSolid
Composite Deck Cleaner or RockSolid Deck & Patio
Cleaner and treat any deep stains with RockSolid
Composite Deck Stain Remover. After cleaning allow the
deck surface to completely dry, then conduct a splash test
on the composite deck to confirm water absorption before
applying this product. To conduct the test, splash a few
drops of water on multiple areas of the composite deck and
watch for water absorption. If the water is not absorbed
within a few minutes, a barrier exists, and should be
removed before staining can begin. Make sure the entire
composite wood surface is dry and free of dust, dirt and
debris. Cover all surrounding areas not intended to be
coated.
APPLICATION
DO NOT APPLY IF RAIN IS EXPECTED WITHIN 24
HOURS OF APPLICATION. Apply when surface and air
temperature is between 50-90ºF and humidity is below 65%
and will remain between 50-90ºF for at least 6 hours after
application.
NOTE: Test RockSolid Composite Deck Refresh in an
inconspicuous area first.
Thoroughly stir the material before and during application.
When using more than one container, combine all
containers to ensure color consistency. Using either a 3/8”
nap roller, short nap stain pad, synthetic paint brush or a
pump-style sprayer saturate and apply generously in a
consistent pattern. If using a pump-style sprayer back
brushing with a synthetic paint brush is recommended.
Work to a wet edge at all times. Avoid rolling back into
coated areas where drying has begun. To minimize lapping,
always work from end to end on a few boards at a time, and
maintain a wet edge. On horizontal surfaces, coat board
ends and all 4 sides whenever possible to protect against
moisture absorption. Clean up drips or spatters with water
IMMEDIATELY, as dried coating is very difficult to remove.
Allow to dry 24 hours before light foot traffic and 48 hours
before replacing furniture. If surface is tacky or soft, extend
drying time before putting heavy objects back in place. Full
cure to a hard finish will take approximately 7 days. Avoid
dragging furniture across surface. On newly coated
surfaces, allow 7 days for coating to cure before washing.
CLEAN UP
Use mild soap and water to remove drips and spatters as
soon as possible.
