Rust-Oleum
®
Chalked Clear Protective Topcoat enhances
any Chalked Ultra Matte paint finish and adds protection to
the surface. The clear topcoat can be applied to maintain
and enhance any Chalked project. Easier application and
more durability compared to traditional furniture waxes. For
interior use only.

PRODUCT APPLICATION
READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE BEGNNING PROJECT
Use when temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F
(32°C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants
by washing the surface with soap and water and let dry.
Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper.
To enhance adhesion, lightly sand glossy or porous
surfaces. Remove any wax by lightly wiping the surface with
mineral spirits.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from any
surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS TOXIC.
EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN
CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control
lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and
a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself
and your family by contacting the National Lead Information
Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.)
APPLICATION
Apply only when air and surface temperatures are between
50-90°F (10-32°C) and humidity is below 85% to ensure
proper drying. Stir thoroughly. Do not shake the can.
Thinning is not required. Avoid painting in direct sunlight or
on hot surfaces.
Use a high quality synthetic brush. Roller application is not
recommended. Avoid excessive brushing as this will reduce
film thickness and protection. Wait for the base coat to dry
for at least 8 hours before applying the Clear Protective
Topcoat. Use light even brush strokes to ensure even flow
and the smoothest finish. Apply 1-2 even coats. Wait 2 hours
between each coat.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50%
relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures.
Dries to the touch in 30 minutes, to handle in 1 hour and is
fully dry in 4 hours. It can be recoated after 2 hours.
CLEAN-UP
Clean brush and other application tools immediately with
soap and water.
