MURATIC ACID: Muriatic Acid is just that, an
acid. It is harmful to use and harmful to the
environment. The health and environmental
impact of Muriatic Acid is not the only
reason why RockSolid chooses to use an
alternative etching solution. Muriatic Acid
can have a negative impact on the condition
of your concrete as well. Improper or lack of
NEUTRALIZATION of the surface once you
are nished etching will result in a high pH level
in your concrete that can cause premature
failure of any coating system. RockSolid
recommends to only use the RockSolid Safe-
Etch Solution™.
This product is not intended for exterior use.
Use tape to keep areas such as wood trim,
metal garage door rails, oor drains, door
frames, etc. clean. These items may be hard
to cut in around and you may get some coating
on them. The most important area to protect
when installing a garage oor coating will be
the termination point under the garage door.
Use two strips of Duct Tape (blue masking tape
will not adhere to concrete) to create a straight
line that will be covered when the garage door
is lowered. Do not install the RockSolid
Top Coat outside the garage door. It is not
intended for exterior use.
Keep children and pets indoors and away
from the work area at all times during the
installation. Make sure to read and follow
all safety guidelines during all phases of
application.
Thoroughly sweep out all dust and dirt on the
oor and apply a mist of water to the surface.
The concrete should accept the water evenly
and consistently across the entire surface to
be coated. If there are areas of beading on the
surface, it represents a possible contaminate
(oil, wax or tire dressing). These areas need
to be cleaned with RockSolid Oil Destroyer™
prior to etching the oor. Scrub the area with a
stiff bristled broom, rinse and inspect again. If
water continues to bead on the surface, re-treat
the stain and scrub again until water no longer
beads in that area. Once you have determined
that water is no longer beading on the surface,
you are now ready to etch the concrete. Please
see recommended safety practices located on
container.
Mix the contents of RockSolid Safe-Etch
Solution™ with 2 gallons of water. Slowly add
the mixed product to a plastic watering can.
Working in a 10’ x 10’ section of the oor, pour
out the etching solution evenly on the oor.
Scrub the solution around with a stiff bristle
broom. Upon initial application of the Safe-Etch
a frothing should occur for a few seconds while
being scrubbed. If the concrete does not froth
it means that there is a sealer on the oor and
it must be chemically or mechanically removed
as previously discussed.
TIP: The plastic watering can is key for even
distribution of the Safe-Etch.
Continue to work in 10’x10’ sections applying
and scrubbing the etch solution. When all
sections are completed, rinse three times and
scrub with a stiff bristle broom while rinsing. To
speed up the drying process, use a oor
squeegee to push all excess water to the
center of the oor then vacuum up. Do not
leave pooled water on the oor. Let the oor
dry at least 2 to 4 hours or overnight with the
door open so air will move over the surface.
TIP: Use a squeegee, wet/dry vacuum or fan to
speed up the drying process.
It is imperative that the oor be completely
dry before applying any coatings. Failure to
follow this warning will create application
issues and possible product failure.
