PREVIOUSLY COATED, WEATHERED WOOD: Remove

deteriorated material and coatings. Weathered wood should be
sanded to a sound s

UNCOATED WEATHERED WOOD:
Bare, weathered wood must be
thoroughly cleaned to remove ground–in dirt, mildew, mold
a
nd
algae stains, gray,

wood fibers, and any other

.
UNCOATED, NEW WOOD: The
surface must clean of all g
r
ease
,
oil, dirt, or any other contaminates which may interfere
with
adhesion. Use a deck or wood cleaner or other suitable
c
l
ea
n
e
r
and rinse thoroughly. Mold and mildew must be removed
with
a chlorinated cleaner or bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly
with
fresh water and allow to fully dry. After preparation,
s
p
r
i
n
k
l
e
water on the bare wood surface. If the water absorbs
r
a
p
i
d
l
y
,
the surface is ready to be coated. If the water beads, pudd
l
es
or is not absorbed, an internal or external barrier exists
a
nd
must be eliminated before painting can b
