PRODUCT APPLICATION
Use when temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F

allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a
wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces.

PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.)
PRIMING
Use of a Rust-Oleum latex primer provides superior
adhesion and hiding and is especially recommended for bare
wood and metal, paperboard and hardboard. Apply
Chalkboard paint 2 hours after applying primer. After priming
bare wood, sand lightly to smooth out the surface.
APPLICATION
Stir thoroughly. Thinning is not required. In hot, dry
conditions, however, you may thin up to 2-oz. water per
quart to extend dry time. Use a good quality synthetic brush,
1/4”-3/8” nap roller or a foam roller designed to give a
smooth finish. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling. Use light,
even strokes to ensure an even flow and the smoothest
finish. A minimum of 2 coats is required. May require
additional coats over contrasting colors.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 77°F (25°C) 50%
relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. A
minimum of 2 coats is required. May require additional coats
over contrasting colors. Dries to the touch in 30 minutes and
to handle in 2 hours. Fully dry in 2-4 hours. May be recoated
after 4 hours.
CONDITIONING AND USE
After 3 days, the chalkboard finish is ready to use. Before
writing, condition the surface by rubbing the side of a piece
of chalk over the entire surface and erase. This will leave a
coat of chalk dust that will provide the best erasability.
Chalkboard can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Wait 7
days after painting before wiping it down. Repeat
conditioning step after cleaning.
CLEAN-UP
Clean brush and other application tools immediately with
soap and water.
PROTECT FROM FREEZING.
