DESCRIPTION AND USES

 Stops Rust
®
 Custom Spray 5-in-1 allows you to 
choose between 5 different spray patterns for ultimate 
control and confidence over your next project. Stops Rust 
Clear Protective Enamel is the ultimate standard in rust 
protection and durability while providing an ultra glossy or 
matte finish. The advanced Stops Rust Clear Enamel 
formula provide 30% greater protection when compared to 
original matching Stops Rust Clear Enamels with standard 
tip based on ASTM tests for adhesion over steel (ASTM 
D3359), Mandrel Bend/flexibility (ASTM D522) and impact 
resistance (ASTM D2794). The advanced Stops Rust Clear 
Enamel formula also provide 30% greater color retention 
when compared to original matching Stops Rust Clear 
Enamels with standard tip (ASTM D2244).

PRODUCT APPLICATION 
SURFACE PREPARATION 
Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants 
by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or 
other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and 
allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a 
wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. 
Clean with soap and water, rinse and let dry. 
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from any 
surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. 
EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS 
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN 
CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID 
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control 
lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and 
a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself

Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. 
PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.) 
APPLICATION 
Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open 
garage. Use when temperature is between 50-90°F  
(10-32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper 
drying. Do not apply to surfaces that, when heated, exceed 
200°F (93°C) or galvanized metal.  Avoid spraying in very 
windy, dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect 
from spray mist. 
Before spraying, turn dial to the desired spray pattern and 
test on an inconspicuous area or on scrap material. Scan 
QR code to learn more. Shake can vigorously for one minute 
after mixing ball begins to rattle.  If mixing ball fails to rattle, 
DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often 
during use. Keep the can the same distance from the 
surface. Recommended distance from the surface will vary 
based on spray selection. Scan QR code on can for details. 
Keep the can in motion while spraying. Spray in a steady 
back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. 
Spray at any angle. Apply 2 or more light coats a few 
minutes apart. Turn dial to LOCK position when finished 
spraying.

DRY AND RECOAT TIMES 
Based on 70°F (21°C) 50% relative humidity. Allow more 
time at cooler temperatures. Dries to touch in 15 minutes, to 
handle in 30 minutes. May recoat anytime. Do not apply 
clear over Stops Rust
®
 Bright Coat Finish or Aluminum 
Finish. 
DIAL CARE AND CLOGGING 
To prevent clogging, clean face of the dial with mineral 
spirits when finished spraying. DO NOT remove cap or dial. 
CLEAN UP 
To remove wet paint, clean with mineral spirits. Throw away 
empty can in trash pickup. Do not burn or place in home 
trash compactor.
