..SURFACE PREPARATION .
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of wax, grease, oil, shellac,
lacquer, mildew, and polishes.
SANDING SURFACE:
Sand area smooth, progressing in sandpaper grit from rough to
medium to fine. For hardwood floors, use NOFMA and NHFA
accepted methods or see Pro Finisher Professional Finishing
Techniques for sanding details. After sanding vacuum surface
and wipe with a cloth to remove all dust.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may
release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD
DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS SUCH AS BRAIN
DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved
respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a
HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead
Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to
www.epa.gov/lead.
STAINING SURFACE:
Oil or water based stains can be used prior to finish application
for custom coloring. Allow stain to dry thoroughly. Test a sample
area for product compatibility. If applying stain, do not use a
sanding sealer before staining. Oil-Base finish may be applied
directly over thoroughly dry stain.
SEALING SURFACE:
A sanding sealer may be used as an option to initially coat bare
wood surface. It penetrates and seals the wood and dries quickly.
Pro Finisher Universal Sealer is recommended because of its
excellent adhesion and extremely fast dry time. Sealer must be
completely dry before applying finish.
SURFACE PREPARATION (cont.) .
REFURBISH PREFINISHED SURFACE:
If existing finished wood surface or wood floor is in good
condition and free from wax or other contaminates, you may
recoat without sanding the surface to bare wood. A thorough
cleaning and abrading of prefinished surface is required. If
compatibility with the old finish is unknown, a sealer coat of Pro
Finisher Universal Sealer will minimize potential adhesion
problems.
..PRODUCT APPLICATION .
Stir contents before using and frequently during use. Do not
shake container. Apply Pro Finisher Polyurethane Finish using a
synthetic or Lambswool applicator pad, natural bristle brush,
polyester brush, short nap roller or weighted T-bar. Apply in
direction of wood grain in smooth, level strokes. Apply thin, even
coats at a rate of 350-450 square feet per gallon. Allow product
to dry 8-10 hours until film is totally dry. Environmental conditions
or heavy application of finish may extend dry times. Heavy
application of finish is not recommended. After first coat has dried,
abrade the surface using 120 to 150 grit sandpaper. Vacuum
and wipe clean. Follow this procedure for successive coats.
Sanding between coats is not required for intercoat adhesion as
long as the timeline between coats does not exceed 15 hours.
Sanding between coats produces a smooth, better looking job. A
minimum of 2-3 coats is recommended. Allow final coat to dry
overnight before permitting use of surface. Finish will take up to
30 days to completely cure. Do not place area rugs on floor, and
avoid exposure to washing and heavy traffic for a minimum of 2
weeks.
COVERAGE
Varies with surface porosity and will cover approximately 400
square feet per gallon.
DRY TIME
Dry times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Pro
Finisher Polyurethane 275 VOC dries to the touch in 4-5 hours
and can be recoated in 8-10 hours. Full cure will be reached in
30 days.
