..PRODUCT APPLICATION .
PAINTING CONDITIONS
Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Use when
temperature is between 50-90°F (10-32°C) and humidity is
below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to
galvanized metal. Avoid spraying in very windy and dusty
conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray
mist.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Make sure the surface is wiped clean and free of any dirt,
oils, grease or wax. If needed, wash the surface with soap
and water, rinse and let dry. Remove loose paint and rust
with a wire brush or sandpaper.
WARNING: If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may
release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD
DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN
DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved
respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a
HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead
Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to
www.eps.gov/lead.
..PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.) .
APPLICATION
Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball
begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT
STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Mask off the area to
be coated. Shake often during use. Make sure the base
coat is completely dry before topcoating. Keep the can 8-
12" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth
motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the
same distance from the surface and in motion while
spraying. Apply 1 light coat, followed by 2-3 medium wet
coats to build desired film thickness. The last coat should
be applied as a wet coat to ensure the coating lays
smoothly on the surface. Allow coating to dry 5 minutes
between coats. Allow the coating to cure for 24 hours
before washing. Remove tape while the last coat is still
wet. The gloss topcoat alone cannot be removed. The
topcoat is removed along with the base Flexidip color. Do
not use near open flame.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50%
relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures.
Dries to the touch in 20 minutes and can be handled in 1
hour. The film can be peeled off once the coating has fully
cured. Naphtha may assist in the removal of film in
intricate or hard to reach areas. To ensure easy removal,
peel off within 3 months of application. During removal, the
original Flexidip base coat color will be removed with the
gloss topcoat.
CLEAN-UP
When finished spraying, clear the spray valve by turning
can upside down and pushing the button for 5 seconds.
Allow wet paint to dry and once dry, peel away or clean up
wet paint with xylene or naphtha. Properly discard empty
container. Do not burn or place in home trash compactor.
CLOGGING
If the valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse in a
solvent such as xylene or naphtha. Do not insert any
object into can valve opening.
