3. Install new Rugged Ridge o’rings as shown. Align free
wheel hub with wheel hub and axle shaft splines. Free
wheel hub must be in “LOCK” position. May be necessary
to rotate wheel hub for splines to align.
4. Using a rubber mallet, tap on Face “A” of free wheel
hub cover until fully seated.
5. Inspect all locking claws to ensure each one is fully
seated in hub grooves.
NOTE: Rugged Ridge free wheel hub is permanently lubricated. If disassembled, do not use grease. Lubri-
cate lightly with SAE 30 oil.
OPERATION: 2 Wheel Drive (4x2) - Turn control dials counterclockwise - using ngers only - to “FREE” posi-
tion. Front wheels are now completely disengaged from power train. 4 Wheel Drive (4x4) - Turn control dials
clockwise - using ngers only - to “LOCK” position. Front wheels are are now engaged with the power train.
Install new o’ring as shown
Face A
1. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Refer to vehicle
service manual.
2. Remove existing free wheel hub using screw driver of
suitable size to loosen claws from Hub Groove. Introduce
screw driver in each claw, as shown, pull out till all claws
are free.
These hubs are intended for use on vehicles over 10 years
old. Make sure the surface and splines on your original hub
and axles are clean and free of any dirt or debris, and that
there are no burrs on the splines which could interfere with
installation and proper function of the new hubs. A small
amount of SAE 30 oil should be used as lubricant on the
hub splines to aid the installation process.
WARNING: May not be held responsible for eventual free
wheel hub functional failures due to liquids, mud, etc. pene-
trating through the vehicle’s axle shaft seal. Suggests peri-
odic inspection of the vehicle’s axle shaft seal.
