Android is an open-source software stack for mobile devices, and a
corresponding open-source project led by Google.
Android's purpose is to establish an open platform for developers to
build innovative mobile apps. Three key components work together to
realize this platform.
- The Android Compatibility Program denes the technical details of
the Android platform and provides tools used by OEMs to ensure that
developer apps run on a variety of devices.
- The Android SDK provides built-in tools for developers to specify
which device features their apps require.
- With a pre-installed app called “Market,” users can browse and
download available third-party apps directly from the Android
Market.
Different Android devices run different versions of the Android
platform, meaning each version has different hardware requirements.
It is IEIMobile’s mission to adopt a “best-t” approach, and ensure
compatibility between hardware capabilities and Android platform
version. We are also committed to providing complete SDKs for
industries to develop their OEM eld application softwares. In addition
to providing Android device ODM services, IEIMobile is developing
a series of own-brand products which combine a potent version of
Android with powerful hardware to be available soon.
Windows® Embedded Handheld 6.5
Windows® Embedded Handheld is an operating system designed for use in mobile and handheld devices such as smartphones.
Part of the Windows CE family, it can be seen as a scaled down version of the desktop Windows Operating System. It offers a
similar Windows experience on small mobile devices.
Emphasis on Touch Control
Windows® Embedded Handheld 6.5 was introduced in February 2009. Carrying popular applications such as Microsoft® Ofce,
Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer and Outlook mail client, it featured a revamped, touch-optimized user interface.
Cloud-Based Service Integration
It also offered a free on-line backup and cloud-syncing service called “My Phone.” Using “My Phone” service to link with Windows
Live ID, Windows® Embedded Handheld users can sync contacts, calendar entries, text messages, videos, photos, music, e-mails,
documents and more with the Cloud, so that data is backed up and available online. In essence, this functionality allows information
to be synchronized across multiple connected devices, ideal for business users on the move.
Direct access to “Windows Marketplace” --- Microsoft®’s mobile app store --- is another key feature of Windows® Embedded
Handheld 6.5. The vast array of third-party software available for Windows® Embedded Handheld devices has long been one
of Windows® Embedded Handheld's greatest strengths, Now getting the right software is easier than ever With the launch of
“Windows Marketplace,” Microsoft® provides a single location for software developers to offer their applications. Users can browse,
purchase, download and install Windows® Embedded Handheld software from the convenience of their handset.
Focus On Enterprise Market
Windows® Embedded Handheld has a long history dating back over 10 years, fostering a well-
supported ecosystem. There are two major advantages it has over other Mobile OSs on the
market today:
*Quick and easy adoption : With a traditional PC look-and-feel, user doesn’t have to readjust their
work habits or take lessons to familiarize themselves with new applications.
*Hassle-free integration : For businesses with legacy infrastructure and systems, failure to
address issues of application compatibility will result in more than just a loss of productivity and
overhead. The inability to leverage existing system know-how, device management expertise
and security solutions spells even more trouble for businesses. Whether on the desktop, or in
the server room, Microsoft®’s line-up of embedded operating systems is everywhere. Windows®
Embedded Handheld, therefore, becomes the apparent mission critical, industrial-strength
integration solution.
Microsoft® unveiled plans for Windows Phone 7 in February 2010, targeting the smartphone OS
market. Windows Embedded Handheld was announced later in June with a focus on enterprise
applications. IEIMobile is closely following the guidelines laid out by Microsoft®’s Mobile OS
Roadmap and fully prepared to offer on-demand software hardware upgrade support.
