Broadcasters Choose RTS Intercom Systems for Inaugural Coverage
Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of
the United States in 2009. With a record 1.8 million
spectators in attendance Washington DC and the
surrounding community was virtually shut down for
the event. In addition, 38 million Americans watched
the inauguration on television. How did broadcasters
cope with this unprecedented viewership? They
stayed connected with RTS Intercom Systems.
RVON technology played a central role in connecting
broadcasters to their worldwide communication
networks. RVON allows the full integration of the
intercom system into a user’s existing data network.
It also allows for the creation of an independent
network for a user’s RVON equipment.
The RVON series devices are fully IP-compliant
with current VoIP standards, and can be monitored
via SNMP. The flexibility of being able to use an
existing data network simplifies the whole process.
One broadcaster used RVON to interconnect the
Newseum and production trucks at Capitol Hill
and the Library of Congress to remote stations
and the Master Control Room via trunking.
“I will say that each and EVERY remote production
truck I visited at the US Capitol had an RTS system
as their main communications system on board.
You could say that the RVON product was key
to all the critical communication used during the
inauguration.” Shawn Anderson, Systems Engineer.
T
he RTS Voice Over Network (RVON) series
allows the full integration of our intercom
system into your existing data network. It also
allows you to create an independent network for your
RVON equipment. Our devices are fully IP-compliant
with current VoIP standards. All RVON series devices
can be monitored via SNMP. The RVON product
family supports ancillary data control for use with
RTS Intelligent Trunking. These products enable
trunking over IP for local to worldwide connectivity.
The RTS VoIP Virtual Keypanel (VKP) is a Windows-
based application that allows any user to have
a fully functioning RTS Digital Matrix Intercom
user station on their PC. The Virtual Keypanel
application connects via the PC’s Ethernet
connection to any path that can support standard
IP protocols, including LAN, WAN, and VPN.
The RTS VKP application is compatible with any
RTS Digital Matrix Intercom equipped with the
RVON interface. The Virtual Keypanel brings
a new level of enterprise-wide and remote
access to your RTS Digital Matrix Intercom
system. The VKP requires that the
PC have a static IP address.
