Description
Plyform, also known as BBOES, is a structural wood panel composed
of a B-grade face and back and C-grade inner plies cross-banded
for strength. Both faces are fully repaired, sanded, edge-sealed and
preoiled with a superior chemically reactive release agent. (Unlimited
numbers of wood and/or synthetic repairs are allowed; some rough
grain and sander skips are allowed.) It is designated as Exterior
durability indicating it is bonded with an exterior resin and is designed
for applications subject to permanent exposure to weather or
moisture. It is a Group 1 species, which indicates it is classed among
the strongest and stiffest.
Certification
¹⁹/₃₂” and ²³/₃₂” panels are certified by APA -The Engineered Wood
Association - and are in compliance with APA Performance Rated
Panels, PS 1-07. An APA stamp confirming compliance appears on
each panel.
Fire Rating
Plywood ³/₈” and thicker has been generically recognized as having
a Class C (III) flame-spread rating without need for test or label
according to HUD/FHA Manual of Acceptable Practices, Section 405-8
to the Minimum Property Standards, Interpretive Bulletin C-1-76 to the
HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards.
Applications
Plyform is designed and manufactured specifically for concrete
forming applications such as walls, decks, and pillars.
Storage
When possible, store panels under roof or in a protected area,
especially if they won’t be installed soon after receipt. If panels must
be stored outside, stack them on a level platform supported by at
least three 4x4s to keep them off the ground. Cover the stack loosely
with non-transparent plastic sheets or tarps. Anchor the covering at
the top of the stack, but keep it open and away from the sides and
bottom to assure good ventilation. www.apawood.org
Handling
Protect the edges and ends of panels from damage. When receiving
panels that will be moved by forklift, place panels on pallets or bunks
to avoid damage from fork tines. Panels being transported on open
truck beds should be fully covered. www.apawood.org
Preparing Form Panels for Use
Panels are factory treated with a chemically reactive release agent;
however RoyOMartin cannot control the length of time between
manufacture and actual use. The release agents’ effectiveness can
dissipate over time. It is recommended that a light application of
release agent be given prior to the first use and each subsequent
use with a chemically reactive release agent that will not bond with,
stain, or adversely affect concrete surfaces. Follow the manufacturer’s
recommendations for application.
Fastening
Nails can be placed near panel edges without splitting the panel.
Panels can be attached to steel or aluminum with mechanical
fasteners using self-drilling, self-tapping screws, or hardened helically
treaded nails.
Workability
Plyform can be cut, drilled, routed, jointed, glued, fastened and
finished with ordinary tools and basic skill. After cutting or exposing
raw edges, reapply approved edge seal.
Panel Spacing
Plywood, like all wood products, will expand and shrink slightly
with changes in moisture content. To assure best performance for
all applications, panel joints (ends and edges) should be spaced ¹/₈
unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer. A 10d box nail
may be used to gauge the spacing between panels.
Cleaning
Caution should be observed when removing panel, so as not to
damage panels or separate veneers from the factory glue bond.
After stripping, remove loose residual concrete and re-oil with a
recommended chemically reactive release agent.
Available as FSC-Certified on request.
