Flash Updates
Appendix C provides infor m ation on updating peripheral product
firmware.
C.1 Preparing for a Flash Update
A Flash update should be pref ormed when updated peripheral
product firmware is available.
Please take the following precautions to ensure a successful Flash
update:
• Obtain the new firmware version from Roc kwell A utomation. Sav e
it to the hard drive of the computer. Do not attempt to perform a
Flash procedure from a floppy disk or a network.
• Read all instructions supplied with the new firmware file.
• Use a computer running terminal emulation software that
supports Xmodem transfers (for example, HyperTerminal).
• Record parameter values in the device that will be Flashed.

• Ensure that the host product (MD60 or MD65 AC drive) is
stopped.
• Close all programs except the terminal emulation program that
you are using to Flash the Serial Converter.
• Disable the screen saver and antivirus programs so that they do
not start during the Flash process.
• If you are using a laptop computer, turn off the FIFO buffers in
HyperTerminal. In HyperTerminal, select File > Properties to
display the Properties dialog box. Clic k Configure, and then click
Adv anced. Ensure that a check mark does not appear next to
Use FIFO buffers.
