Milling Fixed Cycles
Chapter 26
26-7
The following section provides a detailed explanation of each parameter
that can be programmed for the milling fixed cycles. Some of these
parameters are not valid with all cycles. Refer to the specific description
of each cycle in section 26.4. To alter milling cycle operation parameters,
refer to section 26.5.
We describe these milling fixed-cycle parameters below.
X__Y__Z__R__ I__J__K__ P__F__L__Q__D__S__;
Where : Is :
X,Y
specifiesthe location of thehole position in the selected plane. In the absolute mode (G90),program
thehole positionusing the coordinatevalues inthe active coordinate system. Inincrementalmode (G91),
programthehole positionusingthedistance fromthecurrenttoolposition totherequired holeposition.
Z
defines the hole bottom. Inabsolute mode (G90),programthehole bottomlevel usingthecoordinate
value in the activecoordinate system. In thein cremental mode (G91),programthedistance from the R
pointlevelto the holebottomlevel.
R
defines the R point level. In the absolute mode (G90),programtheR point level as acoordinate value in
theactive coordinatesystem. Inthe incrementalmode (G91),programtheR pointlevel by the distance
fromtheinitial pointleveltotheR pointlevel.
I, J, K,
or Q
Q defines theinfeed amountforeachmove madein thehole inG83; I, J, and K,orQ definestheshift
amountfor G76 and G87.
P
defines the dwellperiod athole bottom. P programsthe dwellinthesameway as G04:secondsifin
feedratemode(G94),spindlerevolutionsifin revolution mode (G95). (The allowable dwell timerangein
secondsis0.001-99999.99. The allowable dwellrangeinrevolutions is also 0.001-99999.999.) The
P--word does notapplyin allmillingfixed cycles.
F
defines the cutting feedrate. Ifthis parameteris notspecified, the control will usethecurrently active
feedratefor the cutting feedrate. ForG74.1and G84.1,F =tapthread leadin inches/mmperrevolution.
L
defines the number of times the milling fixed cycle is r epeated. The maximumnumberofrepeats is
9999.
• Inabsolutemode, the controldrills in thesame location the number of times specified bytheL--word.
• Inincremental mode,theL--worddrills the number of holes specified by the L-- word atequallyspaced
positions,determined byaxis positioning parameters XandY.
• IfanL0 isprogrammed, the controlstore s themilling cycle informationbutdoes not execute thedrilling
cycle. If no L--word isprogramme d,the control defa ultstoL1.
Q
In G83,Q defines the infeed amountforeachmovemadein thehole.
In G86.1and G87,Q defines the shift amount (asdoI,J,andK).
In G74.1 and G84.1,Q defines theangle atwhich to orient thespindlebefore starting the tap. Ifyou
don’tprogramtheQ-word,thespindleis not oriented before thetapbegins. T his means thatthehole is
notre-tappableunlessa Q-word isprogrammedin the cycle block. The spindleisbroughttoa stop priorto
the initiation ofthe tapping phaseeven ifQ isnot
programmed;thishappens after themovetothe
R-plane.
D
defines the returnspindle speed so that, ifyou want,thetap-outmovecan beperformed fasterorslower
than the tap-in. Toolselection byD-word isnotpossible while inthesolidtappingmode.
S
defines spindle speed in rpm.
