Tool Control Functions
Chapter 20
20-30
Any time after the G10L3 command, parameters may be programmed to
enter what tool group is being entered, the type of tool life measurement
that is being used, and the tool life threshold percentage. Details on these
features are discussed in section 20.5.1. The format for this block is:
P__I__Q__;
Where : Is :
P
The value entered withtheP--word is usedtoprogramwhattoolgroupnumberis
beingedited. The followingblockswillassigntools to thattoolgroup.
I
The value entered withtheI --word is usedtoprogramthetypeoftool life
measurementthatistobe usedforallthe tools in that group. I0 setsa type of
time,I1 sets atypeofnumberofuses, and I2 sets atype ofdistance (see section
20.5.1 fordetails). Ifmorethenone I--wordis programmedforatoolgroupthe

programmed for a groupthecontrolwilluse I0 (time)as adefaultvalue.
Q
The value entered withtheQ--wordisused to programthethresholdpercentage
for thattoolgroup. Enterthepercentage ofthe totalexpected tool lifethatwill

on threshold percentage. Ifthe Q -- wordis notprogrammed in ablock thecontrol
usesa defaultvalueof80%.
The following program blocks assign tools to groups, length and cutter
compensation offset numbers, and expected tool life to specific tools. This
information is assigned to the last group number programmed in a block
using the P--word. The format for these blocks are:
T__ H__ D__ L__;
Where : Is :
T
The value entered withtheT--wordis the toolnumberofthe tool to beassigned
to that group
H
The value entered withtheH--word is the tool lengthoffsetnumberfrom the tool
geometryand wear tablesthatisto beassigned to thistool. The H-- wordis only
validifprogrammed inthesameblockas aT--word.
D
The value entered withtheD--word is the tool radius offsetnumberfrom the tool
geometryand wear tablesthatisto beassigned to thistool. The D-- wordis only
validifprogrammed inthesameblockas aT--word.
L
The value entered withtheL--wordisused to programthevalueoftheexpected
tool life forthattooland the followingtoolsinthesametoolgroup. The controls
interpretation ofthis is dependantonthevaluesetwith the I--word in this program
block. The value programmed with the L--wordremains activeforallfollowing
tools inthatgroup untilreplacedwith adifferentL--word,oranew tool group is
programmed with aP--word.
All of the tools should then be programmed for that group in individual
blocks. When all of the tools for that group have been entered change
groups by programming a different P--word in a block.
