Frame D Armature Leg Fuse Replacement

Installation Instructions

What This Kit Includes

• Three (for non-regenerative drives) or six (for regenerative drives) square

body, stud-mount, high speed fuses

Tools That You Need

• Flathead screwdriver

• Phillips® screwdriver

• Torque wrench

What You Need to Do

1. Remove and lock-out all incoming power to the drive.

ATTENTION: Only qualified personnel familiar with DC drives

and associated machinery should plan or implement the installation,

start-up and subsequent maintenance of the system. Failure to comply

may result in personal injury and/or equipment damage.

ATTENTION: To avoid an electric shock hazard, ensure that all

power to the drive has been removed before performing the following.

ATTENTION: Remove power before making or breaking cable

connections. When you remove or insert a cable connector with

power applied, an electrical arc may occur. An electrical arc can

cause personal injury or property damage by:

• sending an erroneous signal to your system’s field devices,

causing unintended machine motion

• causing an explosion in a hazardous environment

Electrical arcing causes excessive wear to contacts on both the

module and its mating connector. Worn contacts may create electrical

resistance.

2. Disconnect the DPI cable from the HIM (if present). 3. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the holes in the right side of the protective covers on the drive and turn the latch 90° counter-clockwise. 4. Open the control panel to the left.

Important: Mark all connections and wires before removal to avoid incorrect wiring during reassembly. 5. Remove the screws that secure the switches to the fuses and remove the switches and fuse wires. Retain the switch, screws and wires for reuse.

6. Loosen the bolts that secure the fuse to the bus bar and SCR leg terminal. Rotate the top of the fuse out and downward and pull the fuse off of the lower bolt and out of the drive. Loosen bolt Remove fuse Loosen bolt 7. Replace the fuses using the following tightening torque: 45 N•m (398 lb•in). 8. Install the existing fuse switches on the fuse body using the existing hardware. Verify that all wires are properly connected to the fuse switches. 9.
